“Heer Ranjha”(1948) is a movie which was produced by Punjab Film Corporation. This movie was directed by Wali Sahab. The movie had Ghulam Mohammed, Shree Nath, Roop Kamal, Gulab Majnu, Aziz Kashmiri etc in it.

Here is a bidaai song from this movie. It is sung by Lata. Wali Sahab is the lyricist. Aziz Khan, who was later also known as Aziz Hindi, is the music director.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Kaahe ko byaahi bidesh (Heer Ranjha)(1948) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Wali Sahab, Md-Aziz Khan

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

kaahe ko byaahi bidesh
kaahe ko byaahi bidesh re
sun baabul morey
sun baabul morey
kahe ko byaahi bidesh re
sun baabul morey
haaan haaan
sun baabul morey

saath bhara maine
saath bhara maine
gudiyon ka chhoda
chhoda saheli ka saath re

saath bhara maine
gudiyon ka chhoda
chhoda saheli ka saath re
tere hi kehne se thaam liya hai
ik pardesi ka haath re
sun baabul morey
sun baabul morey
kaahe ko byaahi bides re
sun baabul morey
haaan haaan
sun baabul morey

meri raani
tere mehlon ki baandi
um hain tumhare ghulaam re
meri raani
tere mehlon ki baandi
hum hai tumhaare ghulaam re
kadmon mein hardum
bichaayenge ankhiyaan
kadmon mein hardum
bichaayenge ankhiyaan
chhupke karenge salaam re
sun baabul morey
sun baabul morey
kaahe ko byaahi bidesh re
sun baabul morey
haaan haaan
sun baabul morey

Khyati ji,
Yes, i heard this yesterday evening. Expecting it to be posted today. Nice song though with different lyrics. This is what i would call faultless singing. Lata Mangeshkar’s “Doli chadhte hi heer ne bain kiye” in Madan Mohan’s Heer Ranjha is the bench mark for all Heer songs or bidaai songs. I am sure you will agree.

mukhda of the song inspired by a poem written by great sufi saint/poet Ameer Khusro which was used in the Umrao Jaan later :

What a poignant song! As all Bidaai ceremonies are. This song has had so many versions, both in film and non-film music.

Btw, Amir Khusro inspired many film songs, for example ‘ Chhap tilak sab chheni rey..’
