Tum chaand se haseen ho taaron se poochh lo

Posted on: October 18, 2011

“Aurat Teri Yehi Kahaani” (1954) was Ranjit Movietone (assembly line) production, which was directed by their long term director Charurbhuj Doshi. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Nirupa Roy, Sulochana, Chandrashekhar etc in it.

The movie has been long forgotten, and alongwith its songs. I do not think there will be too many takers for this movie today, but I am a ready taker for the songs of such obscure movies.

Here is a song from this movie that I discovered a few hours ago. What a lovely song ! It is sung by Talat Mehmood. Butaram Sharma is the lyricist. music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Tum chaand se haseen ho taaron se poochh lo (Aurat Teri Yehi Kahaani) (1954) Singer-Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Butaram Sharma, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

tum chaand se haseen ho
taaron se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho
taaron se poochh lo
phoolon se khubaroo(?) ho
bahaaron se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho

kyun dekhti hai meri nazar
tumko baar baar
kyun dekhti hai meri nazar
tumko baar baar
apni nazar ke shokh ishaaron se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho

qismat mein ho judaai to
kaise milaap ho
qismat mein ho judaai to
kaise milaap ho
behti nadi ke donon kinaaron
se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho

kuchh aansuon se poochh lo
ulfat ki talkhiyaan
kuchh aansuon se poochh lo
ulfat ki talkhiyaan
kuchh badnaseeb pyaar ke
maaron se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho
taaron se poochh lo
phoolon se khubaroo(?) ho
bahaaron se poochh lo
tum chaand se haseen ho
tum chaand se haseen ho

Atul ji,
AURAT TERI YEHI KAHANI-1954,was a Ranjit film based on a hit marathi film ‘ STREE JANMA HI TUZI KAHANI ‘-1952,produced and directed by Datta Dharmadhikari and the actors were Suryakant,Raja Paranjape,Usha Kiran,Sulochana etc. This was based on a story of Pt.Mahadev shastri Joshi.
The hindi version had actors like Bharat Bhushan,Nirupa Roy and Sulochana a hit trio for a tear jerker, supported by Chandrasekhar,Srinath,Kamalakant etc.
The story was about how Women are treated in our country. One moment they are worshipped on high pedestal, the very next moment they are tortured and remain on the last ladder of degradation. It is a curse to be born as a Woman in India.(This is NOT my opinion,I am only writing what these films implied;lest somebody may brand me anti-woman and a MCP).
Asha(Sulochana) is a collegian. She is waylaid by a ruffian. She keeps it a secret, but her borther Jagdish(srinath) takes her to Benares and after delivery, leaves the male child in the Ganges in a basket. It is found byKamala, (Nirupa Roy), who brings it home. She is to marry Avinash(Chandrasekhar),hence she advises her brother Ashok(Bharat Bhushan) to get married and look after the child. As expected by clever viewers,he marries none other than Asha, who recognises her son immediately.Kamala, fearing Asha’s claim, leaves the house with the child.Ashok throws Asha out of the house for this and she is on the road again.
I wonder,to what extent the indian movie writers can go if they are determined with a ‘khunnas’ to torment the helpless Heroines. The further events are so sad that I request you to only imagine.Such type of films were a hit with our womenfolk in those days who flocked to the cinema halls in giant groups
Ranjit Movitone, those days were churning out film after film and tried remaking other language hits also. This was one such movie, but it was not as successful in Hindi.

Thanks a lot for this detailed overview of the movie. Indeed those were the days where making moviegoers cry was considered desirable and even many movie goers thought that going to movies and get tormented was a good way to spend one’s time in a movie hall.
