“Heer” (1956) is a story based on the Punjabi Tragic love story of Heer Ranjha, which has been an important source of inspiration for several Hindi movies.

This movie “Heer” (1956) had Nutan playing the title role of Heer, while Pradeep Kumar played Ranjha.

I have discussed three songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from this movie.

This song is a highly mournful song where Heer, knowing that they are not destined to get married to each other (As she is being married off to some one else), calls on her beloved in this song. The words are quite mourful, where symbols of death (like kafan,maut etc) are likened to the happier symbols of wedding (viz ghoonghat,shehnaayi etc) signifying that their dreams of getting united with each other will fructify not at their wedding but at their deaths.

This extremely sad song is written by Majrooh Sultanpur. Asha Bhonsle has sung it and music is composed by Anil Biswas. The song is naturally picturised on Nutan.
