Mast aankhen hain ki paimaane do

Posted on: April 15, 2011

“Naqli Nawaab” (1962) is a movie starring Manoj Kumar and Shakila. The movie itself may not be any great shakes and even its music may have been forgotten with time, but the music of this movie is quite wonderful to listen to, as I have discovered recently.

Here is a lovely song from this movie. This is an incredibly romantic duet which is sung by Talat Mehmood and Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised on Manoj Kumar and Shakeela.

Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist and music is composed by Baabul.

Listen to this song and watch the picturisation. This song is quite a treat for the senses.

aa aa aa aa

mast aankhen hain ki paimaane do
haay aaj to mujhko bahak jaane do
itne chhalka ke na paimaane do
haay ik zaraa hosh mein aa jaane do

hosh ka kaam bahaaron mein nahin
tum sa ek phool hazaaron mein nahin
dil ke tasteen nazaaron mein nahin
dil ke nazdeek zaraa aane do
haay dil ke nazdeek zaraa aane do
ik zaraa hosh mein aa jaane do
haay
aaj to mujhko bahak jaane do

dil ki har jeet mein ik haar bhi hai
pyaar aasaan bhi hai dushwaar bhi hai
har qadam par koi deewaar bhi hai
milne paate nahin deewaane do
haay milne paate nahin deewaane do
mast aankhen hain ki paimaane do
haay ik zaraa hosh mein aa jaane do

khoya khoya sa ye khwaabon ka samaan
ham le aaye hai armaan jahaan
yahi duniya to wo duniya hain jahaan
ek ho jaate hain begaane do
haay ek ho jaate hain begaane do
itne chhalka ke na paimaane do
haay
aaj to mujhko bahak jaane do

din khushi ka jo guzar jaayega
kafilaa dil ka kidhar jaayegaa
waqt sharma ke thahar jaayegaa
apni zulfen mujhe bikhraane do
haay apni zulfen mujhe bikhraane do
aaj to mujhko bahak jaane do
mast aankhen hain ki paimaane do
haay
aaj to mujhko bahak jaane do

Atul-ji,

Sorry to nit-pick : there seems to be some confusion between the write up and the header of the lyrics – the male singer is mentioned as Rafi in the write up, while it is mentioned as Talat in the header of the lyrics.

It sounds very much like Talat to me. Probably I am mistaken, and would appreciate a feedback from both you, and from readers more knowledgeable than I.

It is Talat Mehmood. Sorry for the confusion because of my absence mindedness.
