Tera mujhko sataanaa mere jiya ko jalaanaa

Posted on: September 30, 2010

All those who are into Hindi movies are told that the romantic song in Hindi movie consists of the hero and heroine singing this song running around trees. Now, I have been a veteran movie watcher (and these days a veteran songs watcher), and I have watched thousands of romantic songs but I failed to locate even one song where the lead duo are shown running around trees.

I have seen romantic songs where hero and heroine have been upto all kinds of activities including dancing, cycling, swimming, horse riding, playing badminton, doing exercises, getting drenched i rain etc, but I singularly failed in my pursuit of finding a song showing the romantic duo involved in running around a tree. The closest I came was finding them singing romantic songs in gardens. But singing songs in places with flowers is not the same as singing songs while running around trees. So I was beginning to think that the lead duo singing romantic song while running around a tree was a myth, just like Himalayan Yeti and Lochness Monster.

Now, I can barely believe my luck, when I actually managed to see a song yesterday night where the hero and heroine were actually running around a tree while singing a romantic song ! This to me in indeed like finally being able to locate the elusive Himalayan Yeti.

This song not only fits the bill as far as running around a tree is concerned, this song in fact fits all the bills of a romantic song, so much so, that I can say that this is perhaps the perfect romantic/ love song that I have come across in a Hindi movie.

This is a perfect romantic song on many counts. For one, the two actors, Nigar Sultana and Rehman, are absolutely stunning i the looks department, and second, they actually look like they are in love. Thirdly, their romance looks realistic and is in fact quite physical and vigorous as a real life remance should be,with the two grabbing each other quite intimately. This is so unlike many Hindi movie ramantic songs where the two actors sing duets maintaining a “respectable” distance from each other.

What I also love about this romantic song is that the words do not include words from astronomy (chaand, sitaare, solar system, galaxy), politics (waadaa, intezaar) and other fields of activities. No big talk is involves ( “sau janam tak saathna chhote hamaara” kind). The words of this song are quite down to earth, and it involves such matters as the lady’s cat, the tree where the lady was seated before she cried for help etc. The song actually talks of the matters that pertain to them, like the girl teases the boy how he tried to hug her and how she did not allow him to and the boy telling her that one could clearly notice her blushing.

The picturisation makes it a perfect romantic song and the simple lyrics make it the perfect romantic song which I find incredibly sensuous too. Now I can say that this is the perfect and the best romantic song that I have ever come across in an Hindi movie. The song bowls one over with its realistic and down to earth simplicity and genuineness.

Another thing that I loved about this song is that the singers, lyricist and music director are not the usual names that one may expect. The song is in fact sung by two singers about whom very little is known. The wonderful female voice is that of Mrs Vishnilal and the male voice belongs to someone called Ishu. The lyrics (which must be the best romantic lyrics ever) are by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

And I needed to go all the way back to 1950 to locate this perfect romantic song. Yes, this song belongs to “Magroor” (1950). It is a movie that I discovered recently thanks to Memsaab’s review of this movie.

This movie is a superb movie, far ahead of its time in its progressiveness. And as we can see the songs of this movie (it is the second song from this song that I have posted here) are even more so. It is just wonderful. Every song of this movie needs to be posted in this blog, and that is precisely what I am going to do the coming days.

For now, enjoy this wonderful romantic song from “Magroor”(1950).

Song-Tera mujhko sataana mere jiyaa ko jalaanaa(Magroor) (1950) Singers-Mrs VishniLal, Ishu, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, M D-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

tera mujhko sataanaa
mere jiyaa ko jalaana
baaton baaton mein banaanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai
tera ped pe chillaana
tera ankhiyaan jhukaanaa
mera hansnaa hansaanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai

rehne diyaa hotaa hamen
ped se utaara kyun
ped se utaara kyun
ped se utaara kyun
baithe the ham maze se
tumne pukaaraa kyun
tumne pukaaraa kyun
tumne pukaaraa kyun

mazedaar wo khaanaa
meri billi ko khilaanaa
mujhe door se hansaana
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai
tera mujhko sataanaa
mere jiyaa ko jalaana
baaton baaton mein banaanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai

dekho dekho ji
dekho dekho ji
dekho ji
ye chidiyaa bankar baithi thi daal par
baithi thi daal par
baithi thi daal par
thodi thodi sharm ki
surkhi thi gaal par
surkhi thi gaal par
surkhi thi gaal par
apni baaton se lubhaanaa
mujhe jaal mein fansaanaa
mera baahon mein na aanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai
tera mujhko sataanaa
mere jiyaa ko jalaana
baaton baaton mein banaanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai

ghar mein baithe baithe
tumhen yaad koi aayaa hogaa
yaad koi aayaa hoyaa
yaad koi aayaa hoyaa
tumne bhi to pyaar bharaa
geet koi gaayaa hoga
geet koi gaayaa hoga
geet koi gaayaa hoga

kyaa
umm
yahi
unpe dil aa gayaa
haay unpe dil aa gayaa
kyaa karoon
haay dil aa gayaa
hahahaha

hmph
shakl to dekhiye
aur uspe galat fahmi hai
hamse kahte hai ke
ab pyaar karoon ya na karoon

bolo kissa wo puraanaa
ab hai dil tera deewaanaa
wo tho aur thaa zamaana
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai
tera mujhko sataanaa
mere jiyaa ko jalaanaa
baaton baton mein banaanaa
mujhe yaad hai
haan
mujhe yaad hai
mujhe yaad hai
haan mujhe yaad hai
three
mujhe yaad hai
four
mujhe yaad hai
