Waapas le le ye jawaani

on:In Hindi movies, leading ladies take turns being happy and sad in movies. And that means they sing happy as well as sad songs in the movies.
When it comes to sad songs, they express their sadness through sad songs whose lyrics often use words like “gham”, “bewafaai”, etc. But this sad song from “Taraanaa” (1951) is rather different. Here Madhubala, who is obviously jilted in love, wants the almighty to take back her “jawaani” (youth), viz turn the clock back and make her a kid again, where one is free from the feelings of love. A very unusual request to make to the Almighty, I must say, because even the Almighty may not have control over the flow of time.
Kaifi Irfani is the lyricist of this unusually worded sad song. Lata sings the song and Anil Biswas is the music director.
I notice that this song marks a little landmark for Anil Biswas in this blog. This is the 50th song of Anil Biswas as a music director in this blog.

Lyrics
waapas le-le ye jawaani
waapas le-le ye jawaani
o jawaani denewaale

raas na aayi pyaar-kahaani
raas na aayi
ho pyaar-kahaani denewaale
waapas le-le ye jawaani
waapas le-le ye jawaani
pyaar tujhe manzoor jo hotaa
thes na lagti dil naa rotaa
pyaar tujhe manzoor jo hotaa
thes na lagti dil naa rotaa
toone kuchh to sochaa hotaa
toone kuchh to sochaa hotaa
zindagaani denewaale
waapas le-le ye jawaani
waapas le-le ye jawaani
meri qismat mujhpe royi
meri qismat mujhpe royi
itnaa royi roye na koyi
itnaa royi roye na koyi
kaisi toone aag lagaa di
kaisi toone aag lagaa di
aankh kaa paani denewaale
waapas le-le ye jawaani
waapas le-le ye jawaani
o jawaani denewaale
waapas le-le ye jawaani
