“Ganga Jamuna Saraswati” was a Manmohan Desai movie produced in 1988. In my opinion, Manmohan Desai was taking his audience for a ride by that time and was even succeeding.

Frankly, I could not bear to watch this movie fully even once. Even its songs were not all that great shakes, I thought.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, I am giving this song the benefit of doubt.

This song “Sajan mera uss paar hain” is a good song to listen. It has been sung by Lata. Prayag Raj is the lyricist whereas Anu Malik is the music director.

In I was not informed about the name of the music director, I would have thought that the music was by Laxmikant Pyarelal. I do not know whether my observation is flattering for Anu Malik or damning for him. Even Prayag Raj’s lyrics are reminiscent of Anand Bakshi.

The picturisation shows Amitabh Bachchan riding in one coach of a train and Meenakshi Sheshadri in another coach of the same train. They are obviously separated from each other in true Manmohan Desai tradition. And they are not aware of each others presence.

The song sung by Lata and picturised on Meenakshi Sheshadri is quite hummable, but one can clearly notice that Lata’s voice was was finally beginning to show the effects of age, and the voice quality was not the same as it used to be in the earlier decades.
