Seene mein sulagte hai armaan

Posted on: January 11, 2009

This movie is called “Tarana” (1951) and it had Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in the lead roles. This movie had some very good music composed by Anil Biswas on the lyrics written by Prem Dhawan.

The song “seene me sulagte hain armaan” was sung by Talat Mahmood and Lata and was picturised on the lead pair of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala.

The song is regarded as a classic song that is still held in high esteem by the fans of old bollywood songs. The picturisation takes us all the way back by nearly six decades, and it is interesting to find out that Dilip Kumar was so young those days, as was`Madhubala. Madhubala in fact looks raw. She started to look stunning in later years.

Song-Seene me sulagte hain armaan (Taraana) (1951) Singers-Talat Mahmood, Lata, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Anil Biswas

Lyrics

seene mein sulagte hain armaan
aankhon mein udaasi chhaayi hai
ye aaj teri duniyaa se hamen
taqdeer kahaan le aayi hai
seene mein sulagte hain armaan

kuchh aankh mein aansoo baaki hain
jo mere gham ke saathi hain
jo mere gham ke saathi hain
ab dil hai naa dil ke armaan hain
ab dil hai naa dil ke armaan hain
bas main hoon meri tanhaayi hai
seene mein sulagte hain armaan

na tujhse gilaa koyi hamko
na koyi shikaayat duniyaa se
do chaar kadam jab manzil thi
do chaar kadam jab manzil thi
qismat ne thokar khaayi hai
seene mein sulagte hain armaan

ek aisi aag lagi man mein
jeene bhi naa de marne bhi naa de
chup hoon to kalejaa jaltaa hai
chup hoon to kalejaa jaltaa hai
boloon to teri ruswaayi hai
seene mein sulagte hain armaan
aankhon mein udaasi chhaayi hai
ye aaj teri duniyaa se hamen
taqdeer kahaan le aayi hai

The song is beautiful, the lyrics are outstanding, and Madhubala is so beautiful. It is such a pity that she passed away at such a young age. Thanks for this wonderful song.

In my younger days, my introduction to Talat’s songs began with this song. I still have with me 78 rpm record of this song.

It is one of the most melodious Talat songs. Lata’s voice is also very young and fresh. The crowning glory is the composition by the Great Anil Vishwas.
