I have been somewhat preoccupied for last three four days. I have been regularly browsing the new additions to the blog, but have not been able to spend time to add or respond to comments. So I see this message from AK ji, renewing his farmaish for this song. And then read Atul ji’s response, saying that this song is not available online so far. That got me into a scramble; since I have the audio of this song in my collection. And this song is simply so endearing that somehow I had to take time out to create the YouTube post and publish it right away. 😀
Sunehraa Jaal is a 1966 stunt adventure movie produced under the banner of Chandu Films Bombay, and directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star line up includes Randhawa, Vijaya Choudhary, BM Vyas, Sunder, Meenakshi, Mridula, Ram Mohan, Kumud Tripathi, Laxmi Chhaayaa, Saudagar Singh, Basant Singh etc. As it always has been the case, the music and songs from the B/C grade films are always Grade A. And this film is no exception. When it may have been released in 1966, did not seem to have made any impression at the box office, and got added to the list of obscure movies. But the music is memorable, and this song is such shining example. However, the fate of such songs is unfortunate – coming from movies that are not well known, they slowly start to fade from the radio broadcasts and from selections that music companies publish. But they remain etched in the minds of music lovers.
Here is publishing this wonderful song yet once again for the pleasure of AK ji and all music lovers who appreciate this music. The lyrics are by Qamar Jalaalabaadi, and the lilting composition with a fabulous rhythm is by Hansraj Behl. As you listen to this song, note the beat of the tabla that is the prominent underpinning of the song. The beat is so lovely, it moves back and forth between 2/3 variations and just keeps the song moving in a wonderful pace. Regarding the on screen performance, one can only hazard a guess that this might have been picturized on Vijaya Choudhry and Randhawa, but I cannot state it for certain.
Enjoy this wonderful lilting melody, and thanks again to AK ji for reminding to dig this out. This is fresh once again, having posted it online just minutes before as I am writing this post. 😀
