Ik pardesi mera dil le gaya

on:“Naagin” song has the most well known “been” tune in Bollywood music, but this “been” music in this song from “Phaagun” (1958) is just as wonderful.
This song “ik pardesi mera dil le gaya” is a typical O P Nayyar song, sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. The lyricist is Qamar Jalalabadi. This song was picturised on Bharat Bhooshan and Madhubala.
The song and lyrics are based on Punjabi folk music, as was usually the case in many O P Nayyar songs. This song is one of the many O P Nayyar songs that have become immortal.

Lyrics
Ik pardesi mera dil le gaya
jaate jaate meetha meetha gham de gaya
haan Ik pardesi mera dil le gaya
jaate jaate meetha meetha gham de gaya haan
Kaun pardesi tera dil le gaya
moti moti ankhiyon me aansoo de gaya
hoy kaun pardesi tera dil le gaya
moti moti ankhiyon me aansoo de gaya
mere pardesiyon ki yehi hain nishaani
ankhiyaan billaur ki sheeshe ki jawaani
thandi thandi aahon ka salaam de gaya
jaate jaate meetha meetha gham de gaya haan
ho kaun pardesi tera dil le gaya
moti moti ankhiyon me aansoo de gaya
dhoondh rahe tujhe laakhon dilwaale
kar de o gori zara aankhon se ujaale
aankhon ka ujaala pardesi le gaya
jaate jaate meetha meetha gham de gaya haan
kaun pardesi tera dil le gaya
moti moti ankhiyon me aansoo de gaya
usko bulaa doon saamne laa doon
kyaa mujhe dogi jo tum se milaa doon
jo bhi mere paas tha wo sab le gaya
jaate jaate meetha meetha gham de gaya haan
hoy kaun pardesi tera dil le gaya
moti moti ankhiyon me aansoo de gaya
Ik pardesi mera dil le gaya
jaate jate meetha meetha gham de gaya

This song brings back memories of a window in a bedroom overlooking the Sandoz sign in Worli, and this song coming out of a loudspeaker on a rainy afternoon. I still love this song and the lift it gives to my spirits.
Thanks, Atul.

[…] songs contain flute music, which is the theme music of this song. In addition, one of the songs (Ik pardesi mera dil le gayaa(Phagun)(1958) )also has a “been” music, which must be the second most popular “been” song […]

I like this song. Heard it many years ago as a kid and liked it from that time itself. Have sort of grown up with it.
