It is quite common for me to remark that many of the songs being posted are songs that I came across only recently. And I also find myself remarking frequently that I found these songs to be gem stuff, even though the movies as well as the songs contained in these movies failed to get [...]

“Mere Jeewan Saathi” (1972) is a movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja, the hit pair of “Haathi Mere Saathi”. This movie, like most Rajesh Khanna movies, was a musical blockbuster, where almost all songs went on to become very popular.

In old Bollywood movies, most leadng actors would be shown seated on a grand piano and singing a song. Now it is not possible to sing and play a grand piano simultaneously, but when you are lip syncingto some one else’s voice and music is someone else’s creation, as are the lyrics, then nothing is impossible [...]

Though boy and girl falling in love and singing love songs is a standard theme in Bollywood movies, such an activity is not as easy to carry out in real life India as is made out in Bollywood movies. Most real life lovers have to carry out their love lives on the sly , away [...]

Many of R D Burman’s songs in 1970s were fast paced songs that were loud, party songs. But when the sitauation demanded, R D Burman could come up with soft, sensitive romantic songs too.

“Aapke Deewaane” (1980) is a movie that had some nice songs in it. This is one of the few movies I recall where Rafi and Kishore Kumar sang together. It was perhaps for the last time that the two sang together, since Rafi died shortly thereafter.

In this blog, I post gems from the golden era of Bollywood movie music, which happened to be roughly from 1950 to 1980, though I have posted songs that are from the times falling outside this era as well. Many of the songs that I have posted are well known even today, while many other [...]

When I was growing up in a city in 1972, a new movie hall had come up and it was showing “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). Its song were so wonderful to listen to that I as a pre teen kid dearly wanted to watch the movie. One fine day, I dragged my elders to the [...]

“Jaalsaaz” (1959) is a forgotten movie by now. But its songs were quite nice to listen to. If these songs are not known to many then it is the loss of the listeners.

What is this blog all about

This blog discusses Bollywood songs of yesteryears. Every song has a brief description, followed by a video link, and complete lyrics of the song.

This is a labour of love, where "new" songs are added every day, and that has been the case for more than one year. This blog has over 2000 songs by now.
