“Manglaa” (1950) was the second Hindi movie made by Gemini pictures, who till then were mainly producers of South Indian language movies. Like in their earlier effort, this movie too was made in Tamil and then dubbed into Hindi. The songs however were re recorded using singers and lyricists of Hindi movies.

“Dilruba” (1950) is a movie that has largely been forgotten. This movie had Dev Anand, Rehana, Yaaqoob, Cuckoo, Balam, Asha Sachdev and Gogiya Pasha in lead roles.
This movie had some very nice music in it. I have already posted a few songs from this movie and more are required to be posted.

Though most songs in Bollywood movies are based on desi values, there are “westernised” songs in Bollywood as well. They are mainly songs which are sung in clubs/ parties, and are often accompanied by dance, either by someone like Helen, or a party dance where several people are seen dancing “phoren” style.

We are all familar with the blockbuster movie of 1975 called “Sholay”. Few people may be aware that a movie of the same name was made in 1953 too.
