atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

About this blog

I am Atul,an India based male in my 40s.My interests are similar to the interests of a typical Indian- Bollywood, cricket, politics etc.

I already have two blogs under my belt- squarecutsblog.blogspot.com is where I discuss music in general, and I used atulblog.wordpress.com for humour. Now I felt the need for a blog where I could express my admiration of certain bollywood songs that I simply love.

In this blog I will discuss some wonderful songs that I have had the privilege of listening to, over the years. Here I will discuss the songs, (including its lyrics and its translation into English), and my reasons why I like the song.I hope that there are many like minded people who will find these discussions interesting.

Your comments are welcome. Or you may email me at squarecut.atul@gmail.com

Here is a farmaish Atul – Lori Category. And one of my all time favourite – Nanhi Kali Sone Chali

Wow, my first farmaish. I am feeling like rwhat the radio announcers of Radio Radio Ceylon felt on receiving their “farmaishes” from Jhumri Tilayya and other such places.

When it comes to Indian music Stamford is probabaly really behind the times and even more obscure than Jhumri Tallaiya :)

There you are, Shalini. Enjoy.

Hi Atul,
I said I would give you some farmaishes…well, here they are…totally your decision of course if you want to present them…and when…

Jo tumko ho pasand wohi baat karenge (one of my Mukesh favourites)

Dil ka haal sune dilwaala (timepass, very pleasant song…brings back lots of memories…fun lyrics)

Hum chhod chale hain mehfil ko (I have always loved this Mukesh song)

Rona kabhi nahin rona (could not find this on youtube – maybe you can find it ? ..it has some memories for me)

Saiya choron ka bada sartaaj nikla (Do Aankhen Barah Haath)

Suhani raat dhal chuki (one of my Rafi favourites)

Abhi na jao chhod kar (definitely one of the best Rafi-Asha duets of all-time)

Jodi hamari jamega kaise jaani (total timepass)

Ye kaun chitrakar hai (one of my favourite Mukesh songs – what beautiful lyrics from Bharat Vyas, absolutely top-notch) – I could find the original picturisation on youtube some days back but cannot find it now ; maybe you find it somewhere)

Ye hawa ye raat ye chandni (Talat Mahmood from Sangdil) : The most unknown yet possibly one of the greatest music directors of all-time, Sajjad Hussain. His standards were
so high that he dismissed both Lata and Kishore as being below his standard !

Aane se uske aaye bahar (Jeene ki raah) : there are different versions of this song…they are all good…I find this song very uplifting.

jaate ho, jaane jaana (from Parvarish) (one of the best timepass songs of all-time, for lyrics alone…just too good !!!)

Hope you find them suitable to squeeze in somewhere.

I will think of more songs in the meantime. You know me.
My appetite for songs is like the Don’s was for runs. :-)

Certainly, Raja. Look for this blog in the coming days.

There you are, Raja. Four of your farmaishes find their way in today’s songs, including that difficult to find “rona kabhi nahin rona” .

Hi Atul, another farmaish from me.

Two songs from the film Barsaat Ki Raat

The fantastic classical song “Garjat Barsat Sawan aayo re” and the superb Qawwali – “Ishq Ishq”.

Shalini, I am unable to locate “garjat barsat ” link, but have no worry, you will have your farmaish for this song fulfilled soon. Consider “Ishq Ishq ” done tomorrow.

Yahoo! :)

OK, ye dil maange more :

- After listening to the Rafi-Asha classic “abhi na jaao”, here is farmaish for another Rafi-Asha beauty “Deewana mastana hua dil” from Bambai ka Babu.

- Hemant da’s “ya dil ki suno duniya waalon” (I know this is one of Shalini’s favourites too.

- another Hemant da song which I really love “tum pukaar lo, tumhara intezaar hai” (Khamoshi)

- moving to Lata (I have not been fair to her) how about “wo bhooli dastaan, lo phir yaad aa gayi” – what a beautiful song this is.

- and “tum na jaane kis jahan mein kho gaye”

- and again Lata with “jo humne dastaan apni sunayee, aap kyon roye” (no prizes for guessing the music director for this one)

- and the same MD and talking of dastaans, Rafi this time “aap ke pehloo mein aakar ro diye”

- let me throw a Kishore song also into the mix “teri duniya se hoke majboor chala”

Just realised my farmaishes are all sad / serious songs…so how about a change with :

- O meri, o meri, o meri sharmilee

- akele akele kahan ja rahe ho

- aaja sanam madhur chandni mein hum tum

Rounding it off with a bhajan
“sukh ke sab saathi” from Gopi.

Atul, if I have gone Bradmanesque in my farmaishes, don’t get psyched please :-)

Just putting them out there….if you can, and totally at your convenience, please see if you can accommodate them. No hurry at all. I am sure you have your own preference of songs also, plus other farmaishes. So please take your time…if I find even one of my farmaishes every few days, I will be thankful.

I don’t believe this…the first time I gave a farmaish of 12 songs….this time, without counting at first, I find it is another farmaish of 12….almost like a cricket match (with 12th man included) :-)

Fun blog for a lot of songs I’ve never heard in my life and a whole bunch of others I enjoy listening to. :)
Thanks Atul!

I loved your comments on the songs, Kanan. They were quite interesting and informative.Keep them coming

Hi Atul, a few more farmaishes from me :-)

- hai mere paas to aa, kidhar khayal hai (Asha Bhonsle in Shikar)..nice catchy song it is though it is not one of her better-known songs IMO

- aa jaane ja (Lata – yes, it is Lata – in Intequaam)

- barkha rani zara jam ke barso (sabak)

Hi Atul, some more farmaishes from me :

- Main chali, main chali dekho pyar ki gali (Padosan)
- Main chali, main chali peechhe peechhe jahan (Professor)
- Koi pyar hamen bhi karta hai (Brahmachari)
- Dekhiye sahibon (Teesri Manzil)
- Hum bhi agar bache hotey (Door Ki Awaaz)
- Door rehkar na karo baat (Amaanat) – have you already posted this ?
- Aaj kal mein dhal gaya (Beti Bete) – fantastic song
- aaja aayee bahar dil hai (Rajkumar)
- kaamdev jaisi teri sooratiya (Tum Haseen Main Jawan)
- pyar hua hai jabse (Abhilasha)
- ye sama sama hai ye pyar ka (Jab jab phool khile)
- bheegi bheegi hawa hai (Sunehra Sansar)
- jaane chaman (Dulhan)
- tu kya jaane wafa o bewafa (Haath Ki Safai)
- chaahiye thoda pyar (Lahu Ke Do Rang)

wow…that’s a long list…I will stop for now.
If and when you can….totally at your convenience.

A few more farmaishes from me, Atul.

-Oye chali chali kaisi hawa yeh chali (Bluffmaster)
- Husn chala kuchh aisi chaal (Bluffmaster)
- Ni main yaar manaana ni (Daag) – Unfortunately I can only find the remix version on youtube now, maybe you can find the original.
Thanks.

I managed to find “Ni main yaar” – searched on “Daag ni main”.
Not the best of video quality but still definitely worth watching and listening. Please consider posting this sometime.

Some more….I know I am flooding you with farmaishes but feel free to consider them totally at your convenience…

- tum ko piya dil diya (Shikari) (This will count in one of my top-10 ALLTIME favourite songs of ALL music composers) My tribute to GS Kohli.

- hansta hua noorani chehra (have you already done this ?)

- le de saiyan odhni punjabi (Pavitra Paapi) – nice song.

Hi Atul….I am going to keep sending farmaishes your way…Please look at them at your convenience…and, if you feel like, include them….totally upto you of course…

How about
- nainon mein darpan hai (Aarop) – lovely “cycle” song
- aao tumhen main pyar (Upasna)
- Darpan ko dekha (Upasna) – I think you already put this up ?
- hey maine kasam li (Tere Mere Sapne) another “cycle” song
- jeevan ki bagiya (Tere Mere Sapne) – maybe you can have a category “expectant parents” (Sharmilee, Anand Ashram)
- jaise Radha ne mala japi (Tere Mere Sapne)
- do panchhi do tinke (Tapasya) – you already put this up ?
- aasmaan ke neeche (Jewel Thief)
- main to chala jidhar chale rasta (Dharkan)

Thanks.

Atul…I just learnt that using the “tags” I can quickly analyse all the songs you have posted till now..stupid me…I should have known this earlier.

Just saw that you have already posted “darpan ko dekha”.
Fine.

Btw, congrats again on getting to 200 songs. What an achievement !!! Like you say, it is a labour of love for you. You have put so much energy into this, it is amazing.

Am sure it will go from strength to strength.

I will not be surprised if it becomes the site of choice for many Indian music lovers to get their video, lyrics, some stats (year, MD, singer etc) and a nice background about the movie and the song.

Hope I am not bothering you with my farmaishes. Of course I can listen to them separately on youtube but there is something nice about finding them on your blog, especially reading the intro. :-) Of course, you should also like the song. I would not want you to post a song which you yourself do not like much. Remember, it is YOUR blog. :-)

And I keep coming up with more :-)

Manna Dey please…

- Lapak jhapak (Boot Polish) – what a fantastic song, in every sense)

- Laaga chunri mein daag (Dil hi to hai)

- Jhanak jhanak tori baaje paayaliya (Mere Huzoor)

I am almost not able to muster the courage to throw in another farmaish – throwing one quickly in there and disappearing for the rest of the day :-)

Manna Dey – Naache man mora

Naache man mora is sung by Rafi, and not Manna Dey, unless there is another song with this lyrics sung by Manna Dey.

Sorry, my mistake. Of course it is Rafi. :-)

I hope you are singing

Rafi ho ya Manna Dey ho
Aakhir post karna hai
Post karna hai
Post karna hai :-)

Atul, a few more songs if you do not mind.

Itni haseen itni jawan raat kya karen (Aaj Aur Kal)
Mera pyar bhi tu hai (Saathi)
Chala jaata hoon kisi ke dhun mein (Mere Jeevan Saathi)
Dilbar jaani (Haathi Mere Saathi)
Tere haathon mein pehna ke choodiyan (Jaani Dushman) – a “choodi” song for you
Kya mausam hai (Doosra Aadmi) – I love this song !!!
Chale the saath mil ke (Haseena Maan Jaayegi) – lovely song.
Tauba ye matwaali chaal (Patthar Ke Sanam)

Raja, kya mausam hai ( Doosra Aadmi) is already posted.
http://atulsongaday.wordpress.com/2008/09/17/kya-mausam-hai/

Tauba ye matwali chal (Pathar ke sanam) is already posted too. ;)
http://atulsongaday.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/tauba-ye-matwaali-chal/

oh, ok…is there a quick way of seeing, alphabetically, all the songs posted so far ? There probably is but I am not smart enough to figure it out. I tried the tags but that is just a selection. :-)

Anyway, since my previous farmaish has 2 null cases, I can come up with 2 more. ;-)

On the right hand top corner, there is search box. If you type the first few words of the song, there is good chance that the song, if posted will appear in the search.

Below the search box, there are three tabs (top posts, latest comments, and tags). By default, top posts is selected. Click tags. You will see popular tags. If you click say Mukesh, you can see all the Mukesh songs in the blog.

I will see if an alphabetical list of songs can also be provided somewhere.

Some more farmaishes, Atul. I am getting greedier by the day.

It is a long list…as usual, please pick whichever you feel like and that too at your convenience of course. Aaraam se….

1)Na jaane kaise (Badaltey Rishtey)
2)Har dil jo pyaar karega (Sangam)
3)O mere sanam (Sangam)
4) Aanchal mein saja lena kaliyan (Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon)
5) O mere shah-e khooba (Love in Tokyo)
6) Aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein (Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon)
7) Jis ke liye (Saajan ki saheli)

8) ye hawa ye raat ye chandni (Sangdil) – my favourite Talat song (lovely lyrics too)
and its “twin” song
9) tujhe kya sunaoon main dilruba (Aakhi Daao) – Nutan looks sooooooooooooooo beautiful in this song

10) Nutan in “nigaahen milaney” (Dil Hi To Hai) – remember !!!

11) Deewana Mastana hua dil (Bambai ka babu)
12) Hum chhod chale hain mehfil ko (Jeevan Saathi)
13) Itni naazuk na bano (Vaasna)
14) Ponch kar ashq (Naya Rasta)

15) Ghungroo ki tarah (Chor Machaye Shor)
16) Pal pal dil ke paas (Blackmail)
17) Kya khoob lagti ho (Dharmatma)
18) Jab chali thandi hawa (Do Badan) – what a beautiful voice Asha has.

That’s it for now.
I hope you also like these songs. You have to post songs that YOU like…this is your blog.

A few more, Atul. For a change, female voice. :-)

Andaaz mera mastana – Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi (timepass)
Sheesha-e-dil itna na uchhalo – same movie (halka-phulka)
Mera dil ab tera o sajna – same movie (lovely song)
Hum intezar karenge – Bahu Begum (evergreen song)
Duniya karey sawaal – same movie (beautiful song by Lata for Roshan)

Atul, a couple of farmaishes if you don’t mind.
2 songs which I like very much – similar in theme. Heroine’s friends teasing her. What innocent times those were.

- akhiyan bhool gayi hain sona (Goonj Uthi Shehnai). One of my all-time favourite songs.

- jaanu jaanu re (Insaan Jaag Utha). Beautiful song.

Hi Atul, what a great blog this is. Am going to make it a regular stopping place (and translations will make it even better!!!!!) :-) I look forward to greatly expanding my Hindi filmi music knowledge and song library!

I am honoured by your visits, Greta. As you can see, I had provided translations in the beginning, before I stopped doing that. I will now start to provide translations for my earlier songs too, starting with Shammi Kapoor songs.

The translations must be a lot of work, it’s not easy to do I know. Take your time (but do start with Shammi!!!) :-) . As I said somewhere, I am even just happy to have transliterated Hindi lyrics that I can sing along to.

Translation is hard work, and that is why I stopped doing that because I thought my readers did not need that.

But I have realised by now it that there are readers who need the translations, and decent translations are not available. So I will be filling that gap if I take up such translation.

I have to leave now on some work. I will be back tomorrow, hopefully by this time. So bye for now, and take care.

Thanks to Memsaab, here I am! What a wonderful site!

Some of my fav songs have already been requested by Rajawaminathan!

My farmaish: from Barsaat ki Raat, if you can, I’ve had no luck:
“Mayus toh hun waade se tere, Kuchh aas bhi hai aur aas nahin”

Thanks for your kind remarks, gilga. Keep visiting this blog. The song of your farmaish will appear in the blog soon.

Hi Atul,

I am back…as you can see from your comments overload. :-)

Just realised that there is another Shammi fan here.
And a massive one at that !!!

Great…

Here are some Shammi requests from me, Atul.

- husn chala kuchh aisi chaal (Bluffmaster). Already requested this but no success. You don’t like it ? If you like, I will even do the English translation for you. Actually, I just found a youtube video which has the English transliteration already.

- dheere chal dheere chal (Boy Friend) : Shammi is in his element here…and Madhubala’s smile is to kill for…the song is really catchy…I just love it.

- na rutho na rutho (Jawan Mohabbat)

- main chali main chali (Professor) (I find a youtube posting already with transliteration)

- khuli palak mein (Professor)

That’s a start….

Hey, if you would like any help with transliteration, I would be glad to help. It is a lot of work for one person. I can take up one song at a time and e-mail it to you…you edit it as you like and put it up here. Just let me know, ok ?

I may not be very good or fast at it but every song done is one more “completed” song.

-

Great to see you back, Raja. Like you and me, Greta (Memsaab) is a great fan of bollywood and she has watched over 700 Bollywood movies in last 5 years when she started watching these movies.

Unlike us, she is of non Indian background. She is an American, but she by now has become an expert Bollywood movie reviewer, despite being unfamiliar with the language. Visit her site memsaabstory.wordpress.com and see for yourself. You will be stunned !

Greta, meet Raja, an Indian fan based in Holland, who is just as much interested in Bollywood as me, perhaps more.

Raja, thanks for your offer in transliteration. I think transliteration is no problem for me at the moment. It is in translation of the songs where you can certainly help, at your own pace of course.

yes, that is what I meant…I just got confused between transliteration and translation.

Like you said, I think the essence of the song makes more sense than just a verbatim translation. I will start with your backlog of Shammi songs.

One small comment, Atul.
I see that comments are not allowed for “door door tum rahe” ? Any particular reason ?

I just wanted to say that this song brought back a lot of memories. And this is Simi’s attempt to seduce Vishal – not in the capacity of the heroine (she is not the heroine of the movie, Nazneen is). Simi has a role similar to Glenn Close in that movie of the late 80s where she is obsessed with the hero and wants to have him at any cost. Simi sees signs of the man she loved in Vishal and therefore this obsession.

The comment got disallowed accidentally. Now I have allowed it.

Atul, you are doind such wonderful work which is no less than tribute to those who created this wealth. They are immortal but you are making them lifetime beyond centuries. Keep it up buddy. I hope this the best way we can value their work.

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words, Devendra.

I am not sure what brought me to your blog; what I am sure is that I have enjoyed your posts. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your encouragement. Hopefully I will be able to sustain this labour of love for as long as possible.

I just found out that this is the place to make farmaishes! I love your site and visit it daily to find out which ones of my favorites have made their way there.
Here are my farmaishes: (mostly Rafi)
Mili khaaq mein mohabbat – Chaudhvin ka chand
Daaman mein daag laga baithe – Dhool ka phool
Chahunga mein tujhe saanjh savere – Dosti
Pyar par bas to nahin hai -sone ki chidiya

Atul, here are a few more farmaishes from me for your consideration :
- Aasmaan pe hai khuda (phir subah hogi)
- Wo subah kabhi to aayegi (phir subah hogi)
- Mera pyar bhi tu hai (Saathi) – happy or sad version
- Mere jeevan saathi (Saathi)
- Ye kaun aaya (Saathi)
- chale they saath mil kar (Haseena Maan Jaayegi) – Rafi version please
- tum kitni khoobsoorat ho (Jungle Mein Mangal)
- Wo hain zara khafa khafa (Shagird)
- Rangat teri surat ki (Tumse Achha Kaun Hai)
- Is rang badalti duniya mein (Raj kumar)
- koi pyar hamen bhi karta hai , a.k.a mohabbat ke khuda(Brahmachari) – I just love this song
- dil ke jharoke mein (Brahmachari) – fantastic lyrics

Thanks.

I have a few more farmaishes to add. You can call these the hide-and-seek variety.

1. Oh chhupne wale saamne aa – Rafi (Tumsa Nahin Dekha)
2. Zara saamne to aaja chhaliye – Rafi
3. Chhup gaya koi re door se pukarke – Lata?
4. Tu chhupi hai kahan main tadapta yahan – Manna De (Navrang)

Thanks for all your efforts.

Here are a couple more Shammi songs.
1. “Main gaoon tum so jao…” from Brahmachari
2. “Aawaz deke hamen tum bulao …” from Professor
3. “Akele akele kahan ja rahe ho …” from An Evening in Paris, and the unforgettable “Yahooo, chahe koi mujhe …” from Junglee.

Somehow Shammi Kapoor got the best songs, always, regardless of who the music director was, and they were always top performers in Binaca Geet Mala.

Keep up the good work. I love this site.

“Akele akele kahan jaa rahe ho” is already posted on 16 october. Other songs are very much in the pipeline.

I hope I am not bothering you, but I do have a farmaish for a mother song:

Uske nahin dekha hamne kabhi par uski zaroorat kya hogi …

I think it was from a movie called Daadi maa, I could be mistaken though. I think it is sung by Rafi and someone else, maybe Mahendra Kapoor.

Yes, I also realized that “Akele akele kahan …” has already been posted. Thanks for the great job you are doing.

The song “usko nahin dekha hamne” is indeed from “Daadi maa”.

Atul,
Some more farmaishes from me. :-)
(I will keep coming up with them, feel free to put them in (or not) – entirely at your convenience.

Tu hai mera prem devta (Kalpana)
Kaho ji tum kya kya khareedoge (Sadhna)
Tujhe pyar karte hain (April Fool)
Aa gale lag ja (April Fool)
Dekho dekho madam (Pyar Mohabbat)
Sun sun sun re balam (Pyar Mohabbat)
Aji roothkar ab (Aarzoo) – Lata or Rafi version
Chhalke teri aankhon se (Aarzoo)
Aye nargis-e-mastana (Aarzoo)
Bedardi balma (Aarzoo)

Hi Atul,

I was searching for something and came across this awesome site – what a wonderful collection of songs. I did not know there were people blogging about good old Hindi songs.

I am attempting to understand these genuine artists better by looking at different criteria. I would like to get your input. I wouldn’t talk about songs in the same vein and at the same frequency as you :) ; but maybe talk about songs as I practice them and look forward to exchanging views.

Thank you for providing such an excellent service.

Look forward to your visit at

http://satyansh.com/smf/index.php?board=4.0

Satyansh

Dear Atul,

I visited your site for the first time today and already I feel I will be a regular visitor. I’m trying to catalog some music that I have and I find this site extremely useful.

All the best.

regards

Manish

Thanks for your comments, Manish. Here is hoping that you will regularly offer your views and remarks too.

Hi Atul,

while trying to figure out how wordpress works, I came across your page. Wow! So much work and dedication you put in finding all these songs and lyrics.

I have a song request! If I may. ;-) I was looking for a video of this song, but couldn’t find it. The Title is: ‘O mere hamrahi kyun tera mann ghabraye’, by Mukesh.

I hope you will find it and reply me with an answer.

Greetings from Amsterdam…

I will try to find this song (I already tried), but I am stumped at the name of the movie. “The right and the wrong” is supposed to be the name of this movie. I am sure the actual title in Hindi is different. Unless I can get the real title, searching about the song is difficult.

Hi,

I think the English title is the real title. I found a vocal. Maybe it will help you find more about the movie.

This is a link about the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066299/

More details:http://www.belizefilmfestival.com/presentations.htm
The name Rohit Jagessar is mentioned in this link. He has made a movie and is to be found via: http://www.rbcradio.com/guiana1838.html

You can reach me at http://ushamarhe.wordpress.com or send me an e-mail I look forward to any news about the search. :-)

I wish all my readers and their near and dear ones a happy new year. May this new year be the best ever for you.

I thank all my readers for patronising this blog and encouraging me by their visits, comments, and farmaishes.

Thanks to your encouragement, this labour of love now has as many as 480 outstanding Bollywood songs ( as on 1 january 2009) and growing at a good pace. This blog is clocking over 500 visits daily ( maximum being 995 in one day).

I thank all my visitors once again and assure you all that I will continue to bring more such songs regularly for your reading, listening and viewing pleasures.

Hi Atul,

A very Happy New Year to you! and thanks for your excellent work on this blog with the superb song selections. A song for every mood!

You cannot possibly have a Piano Songs category without Pyar Diwaana Hota Hai Mastana Hota Hai by Kishore Kumar. Dont you remember Rajesh Khanna with all his head-tilting and hand-raising gestures? If you can post this song, that would be great.

thanks

Indeed, you are right and I will post that song soon.

SAtul,
Wish you and your family a very happy new year.

AIt has been a week now since I last gave you some farmaishes – and a week is a long time in Jhumri Talaiya :-)

Am adding a few more farmaishes here (as usual, take your time)
- Daane daane pe likha hai (Baarish)
- Ye munh aur daal masoor ki (Baarish)
- Soorat ho to aisi ho (Baarish)
- Har chehra yahan chand (Aabroo)
- Aapse pyar hua (Aabroo)
- Ek do teen chaar (Sanjog-1971)
- Humne jo dekhe sapne (Parivar)

Atul I wish you and all your readers a Very Happy New Year.

Keep up the fantastic effort. Thank you so much for starting this blog.

From a BIG Fan :)

Thanks Raja. Thanks, Shalini.

Shubh Neya Saal!

All the best in 2009. :-)

Thanks Usha.

Atul,
I know I am bombarding you with farmaishes but I have no intention of putting any pressure on you. I just drop the farmaishes here – and leave it completely to you to choose, if and when you want to, to take them up. It is YOUR blog, so feel free to handle each request on your own terms.

Here goes :
- Ye teri saadgi (Shabnam). I really like Rafi’s voice in this.
- mujhe dard-e-dil ka pata na tha (Akashdeep)
- na ja re mere pyar ke raahi (Oonche Log)
- gori chalo na hans ki chaal (Beti Bete)
- Kya mil gaya hai kya kho gaya (Sasuraal)

Thanks.

Yeh Raja ki farmaishein toh KABHI khatam nahin hongi!!

Hey people, this is OldTimer. Remember moi?

Meri bhi ek farmaish hai.

Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge…(sholay)

Love you guys.

Arrey Sanjay bhai, where were you all these days ? The more appropriate song for the occasion is “kab ke bicchde huye ham aaj yahan aa ke mile ” (Laawaaris). :)

Arey Sanjay bhai, itney dinon baad…sab khairiyat to hai…jahan tak farmaish ka sawaal hai. bas….wo kali kali hi kya jispe bhanwra na mandraaye…shama to jalti hi isliye hai ki uspe parwaana baar baar mitey…bas, bandey ki kuchh aisi hi haalat samjhiye…roz yahan aatey hain…chand nagmaon ko jee bhar ke sun letey hain….aur dil khush ho jaata hai…in gaanon ke farmaish ka silsila, inshallah, chalta rahega…aur Atul bhai aise hi hum par karam karte rahenge…bas yahi dua hai…

Atul, a few more farmaishes for your consideration…

- yahan wahan saare (Aan Milo Sajna)
- Sama hai suhana (Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani)
- Savere ka sooraj (Ek Baar Muskura Do)
- Kehta hai joker (Mera Naam Joker)
- Mere gunaah maaf kar (Sachaai)
- Hum ko man ki shakti dena (Guddi)

With apologh to “aati rahengi baharen”
- atti rahengi farmaishen
- post hoti rahengi farmaishen
sabki nazar se zara tum dekho
- site aur rangeen hi banti hai….o o :-)
-

Ansd this timepass song from Shrimanji : Is duniya mein pyare

Some more songs, Atul. :-)
- Sab kuchh seekha humne (Anari)
- Chand si mehbooba ho meri (Himalay Ki God Mein)
- Chand aahen bharega (Phool Baney Angarey)

And they continue to stream in (hope you don’t mind) :-)
- Ek haseen shaam ko (Dulhan ek raat ki) – what a Rafi beauty this is (not to mention my Nutan :-) )
- rahe na rahe hum (Mamta) – I love this Roshan song
- baag mein kali khili (Chand aur Suraj) – cute song
- mera pyar wo hai (Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi)
- Huzoorewaala (Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi)
-
-
-

And I can’t help myself, Atul. What a maestro Roshan was….Listen to these gems…all from just one movie. How can so much magic be packed into ONE movie ? The guy was very very special. And I think very under-rated. This is all from “Aarti” (very nice story also – famous combo of Meena K, Pradeep K, Ashok K and Roshan saab’s music)

- Aap ne yaad dilaaya to mujhe yaad aaya
- Ab kya misaal doon
- Baar baar tohe kya samjhaaye
- Kabhi to milegi

Its http://www.bobbytalkscinema,com

Waiting for you there…!

I

I have been meaning to post these farmaishes for some time now, but somehow I just listen to the songs daily and forget all about the farmaishes because the songs transport me to another world and another time and everything else gets forgotten!

These are songs from the movie Anubhav:
1. Phir kahin koi phool khila … by Manna Dey
2. Meri jaan mujhe jaan na kaho … by Geeta Dutt
3. Koi chupke se aake … by Geeta Dutt

I think Geeta Dutt passed away around that time, so these may well be her last songs, and I just vaguely remember the songs, but they were all her usual quality – smooth, soft and lilting.

Thanks, Atul.

I just love this site! Too bad I have to work and can’t spend the day on it. I will be back. I’ve added you to my blogroll and look forward to seeing more of your great work here. I really appreciate your efforts! All the best!

Thanks, Sitaji.

Atul mian,

Jhumri Tilaiyya se asalam aleikum.

Aap ye na samjhen ki itne din ho gaye aur humne aapke blog ke is zarre ki taraf tavajju hi nahin kiya.

Chaliye, muddatton baad sahi, pesh-e-khidmat hai hamare is chhote se gaon se phir se chand farmaishen.

Kuchh mili-juli nagmon ka guldasta hai, kahin jawaan josh ka leher to kahin zehen ko chhoo lene waali mayoosi.

Jawaan josh ka zikr kahin ho to film Umang se behtar iski numaish milni mushquil hai. Is film ko dekhna ka mauka mujhe bachpan mein mila aur tab ki kuchh yaadein ab bhi inse judi hui hain.

Inke alaawa kuchh mayoosi ke gaanon ka bhi yahan farmaish karne ki jurrat kar raha hoon. Iraada to logon ko mayoos karne ka nahin hain, bairhaal inko bhi aapke blog ke kaabil samajh ke pesh kar raha hoon. In mein dard ka kucch alag hi ehsaas hai.

Aur in mein ek aisa bhi nagma hai jisko agar “nagma-e-dard ka baadshah” ka khitaab diya jaaye to beshaque galat nahin hoga.

Ummeed karta hoon ki aap apne blog mein inhen shaamil karenge… bahut meherbaani hogi…

Aadaab, Raja

1) Sacha pyar ye jhuk nahin sakta (Umang)
2) Pyar pe koi bas to nahin hai (Umang)
3) Hum log hain aise deewane (Umang)
4) Babul kaun ghadi (Umang)
5) Jaane kya dhoondhi rehti hain (Shola Aur Shabnam)
6) Caravan guzar gaya (Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal) – „nagma-e-dard ka baadshah“
7) Aye dil mujhe aisi jagah le chal (Arzoo)
8) Mujhe raat din ye khayal hai (Umar Qaid)
9) Teri duniya mein dil (Banwre Nain)
10) Ye zindagi ke mele (Mela)

Atul, I have one request. I saw this song donkey’s years ago in Chitrahaar. I don’t know from what movie, who are the actors, or singers.
The setting is a typical 50s club show, and the song goes

Tum ne kya dekha bhalaa
Agar na dekha Africa
Tanganika, Tanganika

Hope you can find it!

HI Atul,
Yesterday I saw a movie called Patang. Normally I like Mala Sinha but she was insufferable in this movie. Anyway there were some pretty nice songs which I was hearing for the first time. Maybe you like them when you listen to them – in that case, maybe you choose to post them here.
- Ye duniya patang (Rafi saab)
- ye duniya badi luteri (Rafi saab)

rang dil ki dhadkan bhi laati to hogi (Lata)

And Atul, after watching “kajra mohabbat waala” today, I could not resist putting a farmaish for another Shamshad-Asha classic, one of my favourites.

Sharma ke ye kyun sab parda nasheen (Chaudhvin Ka Chand)

THanks. Hope you don’t mind my farmaishes. Totally at your convenience, as usual.

Atul, after listening to “bigdi banaanewaale” , I got into the mood for other songs of that period. Like
ankhiyan mila ke (Ratan)
- chup chup baithe ho zaroor koi baat hai (Badi bahen)
- chale jaana nahin (Badi bahen)

If and when you can, could you put these up too ? Classics from the 40s.

As promised, here is a translation.
Deewana mujh sa nahin

There is no one crazier than me under this sky
There is no one crazier than me under this sky
In front of me walks my killer, and I just follow

From the time I have found my adversary worthy of love
From that time I have lost all track of route or destination
Like a person sleep-walking
Walking with eyes shut
There is no one crazier than me under this sky
There is no one crazier than me under this sky
In front of me walks my killer, and I just follow

I have also left tomorrow’s matters for tomorrow
All you get in life is a few moments to talk
You get just a few moments of togetherness
What is the point in living alone
There is no one crazier than me under this sky
There is no one crazier than me under this sky
In front of me walks my killer, and I just follow

and Another

Na rootho , rootho na

Don’t get upset, don’t get upset, my dear
At least this way, we get to know each other
I will get upset, I will get upset with you
You feign ignorance knowing fully well you have stolen my heart

If you get upset, everything will get upset
We will not have such beautiful surroundings or luck again
Why do you make a fuss of such a small thing
These are just secrets of the heart, treat them as such, my dear
Don’t get upset, don’t get upset, my dear
At least this way, we get to know each other
I will get upset, I will get upset with you
You feign ignorance knowing fully well you have stolen my heart

My complaint is that you kept your love for me a secret
You have no idea what the state of my heart is
Your ignoring me is killing me
With great difficulty I am handling my innocent heart
With great difficulty I am handling my innocent heart
Don’t get upset, don’t get upset, my dear
At least this way, we get to know each other
I will get upset, I will get upset with you
You feign ignorance knowing fully well you have stolen my heart

At least it is good the dilemma has blossomed into something colourful
There is sparkle of happiness in the eyes, and laughter on the lips
There is nothing wrong in a tiff that finally ends up in love
And a pledge to live together for ever
And a pledge to live together for ever
Don’t get upset, don’t get upset, my dear
At least this way, we get to know each other
I will get upset, I will get upset with you
You feign ignorance knowing fully well you have stolen my heart

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

insaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Man’s intentions cannot be trusted

nikla na karo tum sajdhaj kar
You don’t go out there all decked up

imaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even decency cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

insaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Man’s intentions cannot be trusted

nikla na karo tum sajdhaj kar
You don’t go out there all decked up

imaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even decency cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

ye di hai bada hi deewana
This heart is quite crazy

cheda na karo iss paagal ko
Don’t play with this this mad heart

ye di hai bada hi deewana
This heart is quite crazy

cheda na karo iss paagal ko
Don’t play with this mad heart

tumse na shararat kar baithe
It may just tease you back

nadan ki neeyat theek nahin
Can’t quite trust this innoncent heart

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

insaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Man’s intentions cannot be trusted

nikla na karo tum sajdhaj kar
You don’t go out there all decked up

imaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even decency cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

Kandhe se hataalo sar apna
Get that head off your shoulder

ye pyaar mohabbat rahne do
Let this love be

Kandhe se hataalo sar apna
Get this head off you shoulder

ye pyaar mohabbat rahne do
Let this love be

kashti ko sambhalo maujon se
Steer the boat from the waves

toofaan ki neeyat theek nahin
The storm cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

insaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Man’s intentions cannot be trusted

nikla na karo tum sajdhaj kar
You don’t go out there all decked up

imaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even decency cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

main kaise Khuda haafiz kah doon
How can I say goodbye

mujhko to kisi ka yakeen nahin
I just don’t trust anybody

main kaise Khuda haafiz kah doon
How can I say goodbye

mujhko to kisi ka yakeen nahin
I just don’t trust anybody

chup jaao hamari ankhon me
Hide yourself in my eyes

Bhagwan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even God cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

insaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Man’s intentions cannot be trusted

nikla na karo tum sajdhaj kar
You don’t go out there all decked up

imaan ki neeyat theek nahin
Even decency cannot be trusted

Iss rang badalti duniya me
In this world of changing colours

Thanks, Raja. I am sure quite a few people will be so thankful to you for your translations. i will include these translations in the relevant songs.

Here are a couple of “Tora man …” farmaishes, Atul. I should probably have checked first to see if they have already been posted, but I don’t think I have seen them here. They are:

1. Tora manwa kyun ghabraye re … Geeta Dutt
2. Tora man darpan kehlaaye … Asha Bhonsle
3. Tora man bada paapi sanwariya re …Asha Bhonsle

I am not sure about the first song, but the second one is from Kaajal and the last one is from Gunga Jumna.

At the current rate of posting, I am sure you will hit your 1000th song before the end of March, and I am the one who hasn’t been able to sit and listen to each song slowly and enjoy them! Keep up the great work.

Another one…tumne mujhe dekha (Teesri Manzil) – feel free to correct.

You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me

O, somewhere in the procession of pain,
I would have been trudging along
In the hope and desire for these lips
I would have been quivering and burning
But your tresses (symbolic : glances) have become kind towards me
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me

O, with this beauty and grace, you have gone far
Finally your footsteps found their way only to my heart
It is like all roads have now reached their end
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me
The earth has stopped moving, the sky is silent
O my dear, O my dear
You have been kind enough to look at me

And one of my favourites..from Professor…khuli palak mein…

Hold on a bit, hold on a bit
Just listen to the call from my heart before you go
With one eye open you feign anger, with the other closed you show love
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die

From the day I have seen you, you have felt like my own
And you have resided in my eyes
And you have resided in my eyes, as a much-loved dream
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die

You have tried to hide your love – and failed
I have tried to show my love – and failed
By now the whole world knows about our condition
Now, having come this far, there is no point in going back
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die

Don’t think this is due to me, what is achieved by making a big fuss
My heart just wanted to tell you something
My heart just wanted to tell you something, and having said it, I will leave
If you don’t believe me, just read it in my eyes
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
With one eye open you feign anger, with the other closed you show love
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die

OK, here is another one…another of my favourite songs…Dil ke jharoke mein (from Brahmachari)…

I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved
I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved

Tomorrow your beauty will be someone else’s
But there will still be flashes in my dreams
You will be married off in a palanquin of flowers
But the fragrance of those flowers will remain in my senses
Tomorrow your beauty will be someone else’s
But there will still be flashes in my dreams
You will be married off in a palanquin of flowers
But the fragrance of those flowers will remain in my senses
I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved
I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved

Even now the glasses of wine formed by your sharp lips
Are in my imagination as intoxicating
Even now the shadows formed by your beautiful tresses
Are my companion in the barren, scorching heat/sunshine
Even now the glasses of wine formed by your sharp lips
Are in my imagination as intoxicating
Even now the shadows formed by your beautiful tresses
Are my companion in the barren, scorching heat/sunshine
I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved

You may choose to reject my love
I have no complaint against you
There is and will always be a picture of you in my eyes
I will always worship you
You may choose to reject my love
I have no complaint against you
There is and will always be a picture of you in my eyes
I will always worship you
I will place you in the window of my heart
And decorating your memories as a bride
I will always keep them in my heart
Don’t worry, my beloved

Atul,

you might enjoy these songs to see how beautifully Rafi, Asha or Lata sung in other languages. These were very popular also.

Rafi-Lata in this romantic number, film: Guddi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5XSUR2i2Bc

Lata’s emotional rendering of this “missing” someone song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfhZRFVP_-A

Rafi-Asha giving this lively romantic number

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQIO6tC

or this gentler teasing from Posti, again Rafi-Asha

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpEkwjLv6As

In fact, Asha was the main female playback singer in this film.

Atul, here is another song “Badan Pe Sitaare” from Prince. Lovely song. Shammi in his element.

All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace
All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace

When I myself will not be there
Who will you look at bashfully
You will never look at a mirror again
You will worry yourself every day without me

All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace
All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace

There is some fun in getting all dressed up and decked up
Only when there is somebody to admire all this
Otherwise all this beauty is just like fading lamps
There needs to be some lover to die for you

All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace
All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace

The climax of my love for you
Is that I have referred to you as God in all my ecstasy
Let the world now judge
Whether I was wrong or right in calling you so

All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace
All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace

All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace
All decked and adorned in stars
O my beloved, where are you headed
Just come here to me, so that I may be at peace

And here is translation for “Baar baar dekho” from Chinatown.

Look at her, look at her again
Keep looking at her a thousand times
For she is worth looking at, my beloved is
Tally Ho, Tally Ho
Look at her, look at her again
Keep looking at her a thousand times
For she is worth looking at, my beloved is
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Yes Sir yes, there must be many young at heart here
Loads of hearts here
But no one quite like her
Yes Sir yes, there must be many young at heart here
Loads of hearts here
But no one quite like her
This incomparable beauty and exceptional style
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Look at her, look at her again
Keep looking at her a thousand times
For she is worth looking at, my beloved is
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Our hearts met, the desired stage was set
Friends, we reached our destination
Don’t ask me where it is
Our hearts met, the desired stage was set
Friends, we reached our destination
Don’t ask me where it is
This is the secret of my new-found love
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Look at her, look at her again
Keep looking at her a thousand times
For she is worth looking at, my beloved is
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Balle Balle, Where are you off to Mister
Why are you jealous of my love ?
Just sit down please
Balle Balle, Where are you off to Mister
Why are you jealous of my love ?
Just sit down please
Pray that you too get a sweetheart like mine
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Look at her, look at her again
Keep looking at her a thousand times
For she is worth looking at, my beloved is
Tally Ho, Tally Ho

Another one …Oye chali chali kaisi hawa (Bluff Master)..

O what sort of wind is this blowing
O what sort of wind is this blowing
That the flower is now falling for the bee
That the flower is now falling for the bee
O is this now the fate of the flower
O is this now the fate of the flower
That even the bee has started looking attractive
That even the bee has started looking attractive

On their lips these people have denial
But it is clear that they actually love me
On their lips these people have denial
But it is clear that they actually love me
You cannot hide a blemish
It will only get more visible if you try to suppress it
And if this heart gets more excited
I know how to handle it
And if this heart gets more excited
I know how to handle it
For I know how to bring back on track somebody gone astray

O what sort of wind is this blowing
O what sort of wind is this blowing
That the flower is now falling for the bee
That the flower is now falling for the bee
O is this now the fate of the flower
O is this now the fate of the flower
That even the bee has started looking attractive
That even the bee has started looking attractive

You call this matter of love just a game
In which world do you live my lord
You call this matter of love just a game
In which world do you live my lord
The matter of love is something entirely different
The heart pounds wildly, there are tears in the eyes
O what do you think of me
I am not one to shed tears
O what do you think of me
I am not one to shed tears
I am one who falls in love
And then seeks happiness in that love

O what sort of wind is this blowing
O what sort of wind is this blowing
That the flower is now falling for the bee
That the flower is now falling for the bee
O is this now the fate of the flower
O is this now the fate of the flower
That even the bee has started looking attractive
That even the bee has started looking attractive

I have made you a killer
I have shown you the way to love
I have made you a killer
I have shown you the way to love
You are teaching me love
You are daring to look me in the eye
If love is indeed true
Then there is only silence on the lips
If love is indeed true
Then there is only silence on the lips
This is that flame
That burns away in silence

O what sort of wind is this blowing
O what sort of wind is this blowing
That the flower is now falling for the bee
That the flower is now falling for the bee
O is this now the fate of the flower
O is this now the fate of the flower
That even the bee has started looking attractive
That even the bee has started looking attractive

And here is “Subhan Allah, haseen chehra” from Kashmir Ki Kali (I posted this by mistake as a comment in the song itself :-) ).

Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
This bewitching style
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil
When I set eyes on you, my heart said
When I set eyes on you, my heart said
That I should only bless you
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil

I wonder in whose fortune is this moon-like face bestowed
I wonder in whose home a piece of this moon will shine
I wonder in whose home a piece of this moon will shine
If I am permitted, may I also
If I am permitted, may I also
Chance my luck
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil
Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
This bewitching style
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil

This world looks at you with a lot of expectation
Everybody wants to narrate his tale to you
Everybody wants to narrate his tale to you
There is a heart(mood)
There is an atmosphere
Wherever you go
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil
Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
Glorious is the Lord, such a beautiful face
This bewitching style
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil
When I set eyes on you, my heart said
When I set eyes on you, my heart said
That I should only bless you
May the Lord protect you from every evil, from every evil

Thanks, Raja. I am sure many Shammi Kapoor fans will be eternally thankful for your translations. I do not think such high quality translations of these songs are available anywhere else.

Atul,

I heard in a Lata interview that her first Hindi film song was a duet with Kishore Kumar in a film called Majboor by Khemchand Prakash something like ek? angrezi chhora chala gaya.

Have you ever come across this?

would love to hear this one!

I have read about that. But I have yet to come across this song.

I may not be able to post too many new songs in the first week of March 2009. So it is good news for those who complained that I post far too many songs for them to catch up. ;)

But who knows, I may still be able to post atleast a few songs during this lean period. I just thought I should keep the readers informed.

As mentioned earlier, I am away for one week. So bear with me for that time, in case you find the lyrics of the songs not full and accurate.

I have a few more farmaishes, Atul. I noticed that Mughal-e-azam had some great songs, and I found only the iconic Pyar kiya to darna kya here. Here are some of my favorites:

Mohe panghat pe … by Lata
Mohabbat ki jhooti kahani pe … by Lata
Jab raat hai aisi matwaali … Lata and Shamshad?
Khuda nigahbaan ho tumhaara … Lata again, and
Ae mohabbat zindabad … by Rafi

Thanks, Atul.

Okay, I know you are not there now, but I was remembering some old Talat songs that I would love to hear again, so here they are:

Bechain nazar betaab jigar …

Main dil hoon ek armaan bhara …

raat ne kya kya khwab dikhaye …

maine chand aur sitaron ki tamanna ki hai ….

aankhon mein masti sharab ki …

ashkon mein jo paaya hai …

Teri chamakti ankhon ke aage yeh sitaare kuch bhi nahin … talat and lata

Gham ki andheri raat mein … talat and rafi

I think I had asked for the song “Pyar par bas to nahin hai …” earlier, from Sone ki Chidiya, in which Talat himself has acted, possibly as a hero.

Thanks for somehow finding all these oldies.

Here are a few more Geeta Dutt favorites of mine:

Mujhko tum jo mile … G D and Hemant

Maane na maane naa

Aaj sajan mohe ang laga le

Yaad karoge yaad karoge ek din humko yaad karoge

and some songs from the movie Mamta

Vikal mora manwa

chhupa lo yun dil mein

in baharon mein akele na phiro

chahe to mora jiya leile sanwariya

and the hits, rahen na rahen hum (this may already have been posted, I haven’t checked) and rehte the kabhi jinke dil mein

I am trying to keep you from getting bored when you get back, Atul saab!

Hey, I liked your song postings everyday. You and your readers might like this video that a friend sent me. It’s a Bollywood version of an iTunes spot. Keep up the good work sharing music with everyone!

Just another farmaish to keep you busy, Atul! This is a song by Manna Dey – Kisne chilman se maara nazaara mujhe. I just found out that it is from the movie Baat ek raat ki, which seems to have some more nice songs, other than the usual Na tum hamen jano.

Thanks.

I don’t know if you have done this already but can you do these two sonf

“Chupoke se mile pyaase pyaase” Its a dev anand song

“Kuch dil ne kaha…kuch bhi nahi” its from Anupama picturised on Dharmendra.

btw i am getting my whole family addicted to this blog including my grandfather. And yes….I am only 16

Kuch dil ne kaha has been posted in the past. Let me search for the Dev Anand song. Any idea which movie it is from ? Wait, I got it, it is from “Manzil”.

Your entire family getting addicted to this blog ? Thank you, thank you. It is just the kind of support and encouragement that I would make me keep going on adding more and more songs.

Okay, just to keep you busy, Atul, here is another farmaish from me. This is an old favorite of mine:

Jaa tose nahin bolun kanhaiya … Lata and Manna Dey

I haven’t checked on the movie, but it is based on Raag Hamsadhwani, and it is a beauty of a song.

Atul,
Some afarmaishes from me after a long time.
Songs from my very young days (they are in my sub-conscious)
- Na sun sun sun bura (Priya)
Pretty pretty Priya (Priya)
Ruby o Rruby (Chaahat)
Aaye baithe khaaye piye khiske (Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati)

I don’t claim that these are very good songs :-) but I remember them fondly from that time.

Can I get your direct e-mail address, because the blog name is not easy to remember. I have sent the query to Radio SLBC for the song “Din hai suhana…”. Hopefully I will get the response. Now a days Ms. Padmini Pareira And Ms. Jyoti Parmar are anchoring the morning transmission between 5.50 AM and 8.30 AM.
I again request to listen the song on April 1, 2009 at 7.30 AM.

I am sending emails frequently to Radio SLBC so that the station can be kept alive & ask my friends to do the same. Through your blog I request all the like minded people to do the same.

The person incharge of website and his email address is:

Hi Atul
What a pleasant surprise to chance upon this site, while googling for ‘Khizaan Ke phool’.
I have been collecting Old Hindi Film Songs MP3, and tagging them for my personal use.
But your work is really great.
Keep it up.
Girish

Mr Sharma, I have mentioned my e mail id at the top of this page.
It is squarecut.atul@gmail.com

Mr Girish Bhatnagar, nice to read your comments. Like you, I too am collecting old Hindi movie songs and sharing them through this blog. I hope to read more from you in this connection, seeing that you are also doing the same.

Dear Atul

I am searching for a song probably sung by Raj Kumari (I may be wrong) “Chhota Sa Balma More Aangna Maan Gilli Khele”.

Another one composed by “Sajjad” Dil Mein Sama Gaye Sajan” Sung by Lata & Male Voice is probably of Talat.

Please help if you have them.

Have you heard “Geetmala Ki Chhaon Mein” recently launched by “Shri Ameen Sayani”.

Ashwani Sharma

I will look for these songs. The second song under Sajaad’s music direction is from ’sangdil” and it is indeed sung by Lata and Talat Mahmood. Let me locate its audio or video.

Second song is from “Sangdil”.

First one I donot know. I heard this one in Ameen Sayani’s Program “Sangeet Ke Sitaron Ki Mehfil” which was being aired on Red FM 98.3MHz about two years back.

The song “Chhota Sa Balma Mora Angna Ma Gilli Khele” is probably from Film “Shehnai” released in 1947. MD is C. Ramchandra.

I have managed to locate the “sangdil” song and I will post it soon. The other song is proving far too elusive.

Dear Atul

I give you another job. The song from Film “Prince” Starring “Shammi Kapoor” “Madhosh Hawa Matwali Fiza Sansar Suhana Lagta Hai”.

Hope you remeber my request. Tomorrow is “Din Hai Suhana”. Do listen at Radio Ceylon.

Now I recalled another song from Movie: SHADI (1961) Music Director: Chitragupta, KHEMCHAND PRAKASH sung by “Mohd. Rafi” – “Tere Pujan Ko Bhagwan Banaoon Bank”.

Please try if available somewhere.

One more Farmayish please. The song is infrequently played on FM Gold (AIR) 106.4 MHz Delhi.

“Chhoti si kahani se Baarishon Key Pani se Saari Waadi Bhar Gayee
Na Jaane Kyon Dil Bhar Gaya Na Jaane Kyon Aankh Bhar Gayee”

Sung By “Asha Bhosle”. Film “Izzazat” Lyricist – “Gulzar”

Atul, here are a few more of my favorite duets:

Chand jaane kahan kho gaya … Rafi and lata in Main chup rahungi
Tum to pyar ho sajna … Rafi and Lata in Sehra
Tumhen paake humne jahan paa liyaa hai … Rafi and Lata in Gehra Daag
Jhukti ghata gaati hawa sapnen jagaaye … Asha and Mahendra Kapoor in Dhool ka Phool
Bheegi chandni chhaayi bekhudi … Manna Dey and Lata in Suhagan

Thanks, Atul

Atul, a few more farmaishes from me
Yeh khamoshiyan yeh tanhaiyaan (I think I requested this earlier, am not sure it is posted. Even with the tags, I find it difficult to search for a paticualr song…just stupid me !). Anyway this song is from “Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke” (with Sunil Dutt and the beautiful Leela Naidu).

And songs of Anuradha (music composed by Ravi Shankar). Every song of this movie is really nice to listen to.

Thanks.

Now I have two versions of same song for you.

“Tum Bin Jaoon Kahan”

By “Rafi Saheb” and “Kishore Da”

Thanks with profound regards

I was looking for this song, Jo dhaye phal paaye sukh laaye tero naam … by Lata, but it doesn’t look like it is here. I think it is from Hum Dono, but I could be wrong. So if it hasn’t already been uploaded, I guess this is my farmaish.

Thanks, Atul.

Two Songs from the film “Hum Dono” in the name of God are

1. Jo Dhyaye Phak Paye Sukh Laye Tero Naam

2. Allah Tero Naam Ishwar Tero Naam

Ms. Lalitha your guess is correct. I endorse your farmayish too.

I am sorry Please read “Phak” as “Phal”

I could not find “Muttu Kodi Kawadi Hadaa” under “Fun Time Pass” category.

Please upload if it has not been donw yet.

Dear Atul

We belong to Punjab and have a true faith in Maa Vaishno Devi.

I request you to put some original videos of Shri Narender Chanchal and Shri Sardool Sikander under devotional category.

Today is our weekly off therefore I have gone through the whole blog.

With this I am shutting down my PC with full praise for your efforts.

Mr. Raja, You are great. After going through your comments I cannot make out whether you belong to South India. Your vocabulary (or Glossary) of songs is marvellous. Your comments for “Tumhari Nazar Kyon Khafa Ho Gai”reminded me of one more famous song from “Night in London”.

“Nazar Na Lag Jaye” Sung by “Mohd. Rafi”.

Now it is your turn Mr. Atul (my farmayish) to put it ASAP.

The song was also the favourite of Milan Singh (Lady Singer) usually singing “Rafi Saheb’s” songs.

Dear Atul

The song from “Do Kaliyan” reminded me of my childhood. At that time we were in Lucknow. I was just 8-9 years old. The mode of advertisement was a rickshaw coming with large banners of Film posted over it.

We used to run after the rickshaw to had handouts etc. of the film. Sometimes these were air-dropped.

The most favourite song of that time, also played by the advertisers, was “Bachche Mann Key Sachche”. At that time I did not know the name of Neetu Singh. I knew it only when she became heroine.

The song, as goes on, following lines are touching one’s heart:
“Bachche Baron Se Behtar Hain …..”

I think I must view the video ASAP on your blog.

You are very right that movies playing on movie halls those days were advertised on rickshaw and leaflets were thrown for kids to catch.
I think I have mentioned it on one of my posts here.

And yes, Raja, my good internet friend is a South Indian but brought up in Eastern parts of India, and he shares the same passion for Bollywood movie songs as you and I.

That is true. Lived my early life in Eastern India.
That song from Night in London (“nazar na lag jaaye”) is very good. I remember seeing this movie as a young boy. It was around the same time as “Evening in Paris” (I don’t want to compare Shammi and Biswajeet :-) ).

THere was a good Helen song in the movie – “mera naam hai jameela”.

ANother song I remember from my early days is Sharada’s “titli udi, ud jo chali” from Suraj. Could you post that one too please, Atul ? For old times’ sake.
Thanks.

Atul, here are a few “timeless classics” farmaishes from me. Not obscurer songs like I sometimes come up with. :-) Mainly Lata-centered, this time. You may have posted some of them already, but in case you havce not.

- mera dil ye pukaare aa ja (Nagin) : one of my Lata favourites
- Jaadugar saiyaaan (Nagin)
- terri jaad mein jalkar dekh liya (Nagin)
- tere dwaar khada ek jogi (Nagin) – Hemant Kumar
- ghar aaya mera pardesi (Awaara)
- aa jaao tadapte hain armaan (Awaara) – what a beautiful song
- jabse balam ghar aaye (Awaara)
- dhoondo dhoondo re sajna (Ganga Jamuna)
- do hanson ka joda (Ganga Jamuna) (maybe already posted ?)
- O chaliya re chaliya re man mein hamaar (Ganga Jamuna) – Lata/Rafi

Mr. Raja; you have posted a lot of translations of hindi songs. May I request you (if you understand Tamil) to post the Tamil version of Lyrics from the film “Kottai Marriaman”.

The music of song is really wonderful. I have a glimpse of Tamil version “Sri Rang Nather Ni Tangchchee Amman, Andman ni purver Mirachi Amman, Kanchi Kamakshi Amma” (Please forgive me for misspelt words). I downloaded the video from web.

Moreover, again you reminded of Sharda. Her songs from “Suraj” one mentioned by you and another “Dekho Mera Dil Machal Gaya” are really classics.

Her songs in “Arround the World”,

1. Chale Jana Jara Thehro
2. Jane Bhi De-e-Sanam Mujhe
3. Kauwa Chale Hansh Ki Chal
4. Yeh Munh Aur Masoor Ki Daal (Duet with another Female singer)

are entertaining.

Mr. Atul, Please post them if they are not posted.

I think I have made a volley of farmyish(es). But after going through the standard of your blog I cannot resist myself.

Once again for Mr. Raja a request. Do you have any idea of songs sung by Lata in Tamil. Your Lata-Centered request remided me this.

May I take liberty to tell you about myself.

I had been a fan of Dharmendra & Hema Malini and did not have interest in watching movies. Though collecting songs of all ages is my hobby. TV is only to watch Cricket, for me. Listening Radio (especially Ceylon) and FM Gold, Delhi is my passion. Basically I am Electronics Engineer but at present I am working as Software Developer and Trainer in a Govt. Department and used to travel the whole Southern India, Maharashtra, Northern India in connection with training programs. Another obsession is for Instrumentals. I used to collect them also.

Today I am running high fever but believe me the lust for quality material on your blog could not stop me from sitting on the computer.

This is all for today. Thanks

an immortal song from Anupma…

kuch dil ne kaha… kuch bhi nahin…

hi
i managed to find the meaning of the word mushtakil—
it means a tenant.
i just realised that listening to these songs over and over again will make us proficient in urdu. think we shd have more of the older songs of majrooh. what say we might learn chaste hindi and hindustani as it used to be called

i have a few farmaishes

“Bolna Halke halke” – Jhoom barabar jhoom
Arziyan – Delhi 6
katra katra mehki hai – ijazzat
saare niyam tod do – Khoobsurat
kayda kayda – khoobsrat
“Genda phool” – Delhi 6

Ashwaniji, I do not know any Lata songs in Tamil unfortunately. That song you mention is also not familiar to me. In fact, I am not familiar with Tamil songs at all.

Atul, a few more farmaishes from me (songs with Helen dances in Biswajeet movies) :
- Merra naam hai Jameela (Night in London) – already requested
- Kamar Patli (Kahin Din Kahin Raat) – I remember this from my early days
- One two three baby ya ya ya (Kismat) – Biswajeet’s dance is quite funny in this.

Atul, here are some morer farmaishes (coming thick and fast now :-) )
- Aaj suhani raat re (a.k.a “tu aaja re”) – Naya Andaz
- Hey babu, ye hai zamana tera – Bhaagam Bhag (1956) – old one
- Gore gore, bankey chhore (Samadhi)
- Saiyan dil mein aana re (Bahaar)

I have a few more farmaishes. I just realized that I could not find any of the songs from the movie Lajwanti. That movie had some great songs, such as

1. Kuch din pehle ek taal mein kamal kunj ke andar … Asha and chorus. This would also qualify as a children’s song.

2. Koi aaya dhadkan kehti hai … Asha

3. Aaja chhaaye kare kare …. Geeta Dutt and chorus

4. chanda re chanda re … Asha. This is a very soothing lori.

5. Gaa mere man gaa tu gaa … Asha

6. chanda mama mere dwar aana … Asha and Manna Dey

I just couldn’t believe it when I found that all these songs, which are all great ones, are from the same movie.

At this rate, you will probably do your 5000th song before this year is over.

No Problem Mr. Raja I am sending this link. Please view the video you will like the music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCGziDNC9No

Thanks

I have a farmayish, not from oldies. It is from Zameen Aasmaan probably released in 1983. The beautiful song was sung by “Lata Mangeshkar & Chorus”. Music was given by our beloved Pancham Da.
And the song is “Aisa Samaa Na Hota”.

Mr. Atul I have created “List of songs by Year Then by Film Name – blog post” & “List of songs by Name of Film – blog post” for you and sent at your e-mail. All the hyperlinks are maintained hence it can be ready for put to web. Please check your email.

Mr. Atul

Mr. Atul

I have one more request to put these two versions of same video from the film
“Kottai Marriaman (2001) – Tamil” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCGziDNC9No

and

“jai Maa Durga Shakti – Hindi” –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5z69ej5_7M

under devotional category.

Thanks

Dear Atul

Today I tuned my radio (Ceylon) late. It was towards the end of morning transmission. But to my surprise the two classic songs played during the short period are: -

1. Naina Barse (Woh KAun Thi) – Marvellous composition from Madan Mohan Saheb.

2. Raina Beeti Jaye (Amar Prem) – Songs of this film are also “AMAR”.

I opened your page and now listening to Naina Barse while waiting for the Raina Beeti Jaye to be uploaded soon.

Thanks

Atul

You have done a great job. Our immortal stars maybe no more, but we will keep them alive forever.

Here is my contribution to a nice Rafi song from the forgettable film “Adventures of Robin Hood”

Thanks for your comments, Mr Deepak Deolalikar.

Dear Atul

Last night I was surfing the net and incidentally came across your previous blog “Binaca Geetmala….”. I went through the contents and found the year of program on the blog was 1959. It could have been aired when I was only 16 or 17 days old.
But I can appreciate the contents now which in addition to Singing also show Dancing Geetmala. Comments from your internet friends were also read by me, who are still actively participating on this blog.

With this I went to bed and after a sound sleep when I woke up today morning I had another sweet memory of the past (between 1976 and 1981).

Many people donot know even those days about another program being aired, soon after “Binaca Geetmala (on Radio Ceylon)”, by Radio Australia. The presentor was Mr. V.L.Chakrapani. This was available immediately after the completion of Binaca Geet Mala program. It was aired on 25m band as well as 19m band. The Fifteen minutes program, though compered in English by Mr. V.L.Chakrapani, broadcasting Hindi songs. And to everybody’s surprise the most played song was “Dekha Hai Sabhi Ne Chand Ko” from film “Dil Ne Pukara(1967)”. Other songs I cannot recall (if I could I will share them too).
The last line from Mr. Chakrapani at the end of program still plays in my memory. “This is V.L.Chkrapani signing off from Radio Australia”. Like we have the voice of Sir Ameen Syani’s “Bahnon Aur Bhaiyo, Main hoon apka radio dost….”.
Now, since I have a pleasent part of memory refreshed I request you to put on your blog these two songs by Rafi Saheb from Dil Ne Pukara(1967)

1. Dekha Hai Sabhi Ne Chand Ko – Sanjay Khan & Rajshri
2. Humko Hone Laga Hai Pyar Tumse – South Indian touch in music.

Many many Thanks

I could find the video links of the songs on internet

1. Dekha Hai Sabhi Ne Chand Ko – Sanjay Khan & Rajshri –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXbSu6-snzo

2. Humko Hone Laga Hai Pyar Tumse (Ooi Amma) – South Indian touch in music – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aea3UuSRi9I

Enjoy the variety

Thanks

Hi

There are some gems that we do not hear often: Do you have anything on:

Anuradha (1960) – with Balraaj Sahni, Abhi Bhattacharya and Leela Naidu

Another one – Alaap – With Amitabh and Rekha (don’t know which year)

Both have lovely touching songs.

Here are a few more of my favorite Lata songs, Atul

Tera mera pyar amar … from Asli Naqli

Pawan deewani na maane … from Dr. Vidya

Woh jo milte the kabhi hamse deewanon ki tarah … from Akeli mat jaiyo

Tadpaoge tadpa lo hum tadap tadapkar bhi … from Barkha

Meethi meethi baaton se bachna zara … from Qaidi no 911

Jhanan jhanjhanake apni paayal … from Aashiq

Main tumhise poochhti hoon … from Black Cat (never heard of this movie!)

Banke panchhi gaayen pyar ka taraana … from Anari

That’s all for now! I am trying to help you get to 1100 soon!

Thanks for the wonderful time I have every night after my family goes to bed, listening to old favorites.

Atul

you took my idea :-) I had been thinking about starting this type of blog for a long time …& what a great job you have done -congratulations!

I just spent a wonderful hour reading through the song listings & listening to nostalgic memories – definitely plan to come back regularly

let me know if you need help moving this forward. I am going to spend some time thinking about how to build on what you have in place

–Manish

Here are a couple more of my favorite chand songs:

Chand ko dekho ji … Lata and Rafi

Dekho woh chand chhupke karta hai kya ishaare … Hemant and Lata

Chanda jaa chanda jaa re jaa re kahe aaya hai akela … Lata in Manmauji

This has become my favorite site these days. Keep it up, Atul!

I was just going through the list of movies and I am surprised to find that Mere Mehboob is missing. I thought you had included the song “Mere mehboob tujhe …” by Rafi at some point last year, so maybe the movie was dropped from the list by accident. There were a couple of other good songs too in that movie:

Mere mehboob mein kya nahin … Lata and Asha?

Allah bachaye naujawanon se … Lata

Yaad mein teri jaag jaagke hum … Rafi and Lata

Ai husn zara jaag tujhe ishq jagaaye … Rafi

Tumse izhaare haal kar baithe … Rafi

Thanks, Atul!

I have posted “mere mehboob qayaamat hogi ” (Mr X in Bombay) and “Mere mehboob na jaa” (Noormahal) so far.

Hi Atul, here are some more songs to help you reach 1300 soon!

1. Mere man ka bawra panchhi … Lata in Amar Deep

2. Balma anaadi man bhaye … Lata in Bahurani

3. Banwari re jeene ka sahara tera naam re … Lata in Ek Phool char kante

4. Mere ae dil bata … Lata in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje

5. Jo tum todo piya … Lata in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje

6. Piya te kahan … Lata in Toofan aur Diya

7. Juhi ki kali meri ladli … Lata in Dil ek Mandir

8. Chahe to mora jiya lele … Lata in Mamta

We were eating at an Indian restaurant over the weekend and they were playing an old Lata CD with some of these songs, which prompted this request. Thanks for the great work, Atul!

Dear Atul, I am sandeep agarwal from hyderabad, your blog is very helpful for deaf people like me, because text lyrics people who cannot hear the song can enjoy the lyrics. really very great job. I wish i can save all your songs in my harddisk, i request you for some songs which encourage disable peoples

thanks

Dear Sandeep. It is nice to know that my blog is useful for you.

I post entire lyrics of the songs, and that should be useful for you to enjoy the song.

I remember seeing a movie called Ghunghat which was based on a Tagore story “The Wreck” and had some very nice songs:

1. Laage na mora jiyaa … by Lata, easily the best song in the movie
2. Mori cham cham baaje paayaliyaa … Lata
3. Haye re insaan ki majbooriyan … Rafi
4. Do nain mile do phool khile … Rafi and Lata or Asha

If you wonder how I happened to see this movie, my mother was responsible! She had heard that this movie was based on a Tagore novel, so we saw this movie, which was not bad, from what I remember. The song Laage na mora jiyaa is a beautiful song and it sounds like a MM song, but apparently Ravi was the music director.

I was looking through last night’s songs and I saw a song which starts with “Ae mere dil teri manzil …” and I was reminded of another song “Ae dil kahan teri manzil …” sung by Hemant Kumar and Lata. The female voice is basically just a chorus so it could even be Suman Kalyanpur, I will have to check this, but it sounds so great. It reminds me of birds taking off in flight, looking for a suitable resting place. So here is my next farmaish!

I was also noticing that the movie Ayee Milan Ki Bela has some great songs and they are all missing! I guess they are on the waiting list! Here are some of them:

Tum kamsin ho … Rafi as well as Lata, but I prefer the Rafi version.

Bura maan gaye … Rafi

Tumhe aur kya doon main dil ke siwa … Lata

I am sure some of these songs have already been requested before by Raja and others. I am usually a Late Lateef!

Thanks for all the wonderful songs, some known, some unknown to me, that you have been showcasing on this site.

I just remembered another one of my Hemant Kumar favorites –

chup hai dharti chup hai chand sitare … House no. 44

and another

Nai manzil nayi rahen naya hai karavan apna … with Lata in Hill Station

and

zindagi pyar ki do char ghadi hoti hai … from Anarkali

This is becoming a habit, to remember some old song and then to come here and see if you have already written about it, and if not, to include in my farmaish list! A new addiction, indeed!

Atul,

Sometime in the 70s there were some very “tongue-in-cheek” quawalis, in films that would be considered B-grade. One that used to be played on Chitrahaar on Doordarshan was “Kaise besharam aashiq hain aaj ke”.

Do you think you could gather some information on this and other similar and post some? I really have no other clues. Thank you.

I have remembered one of the films, it was Putli Bai (1972).

There was another nice song by Kishore Kumar (and perhaps Asha?) first line was like this

Mere Meet Bata Tujhe Mujhse Kab Pyar Hua Aur Kaise

But cannot find any other info.

Yes, the qawwaali “Aise besharm ashiq” is indeed from “Putlibai”.

And I will post it as soon as I can get its lyrics right. This qawwali is over 10 minutes long and its lyrics contain more than 1000 words.

Atul, I see i had the first word wrong so good of you to be able to dig it up so quickly and with a video too!
Thanks to this I have remembered another quawali by these quawals, also in another Z-grade film, I presume, but which was also played on the radio a lot.

Suno ji bada lutf tha jab kunware the hum tum…

I now found the Mere Meet Bata song from Putlibai on youtube. Really an A-class song for such a movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhmDQt44XSw

I never knew that this song is from “Putlibai”. The qawwali overshadowed all other songs from the movie, that is how overwhelming was the influence of that qawwali.

Atul, I just noticed that you had only two songs posted from the wonderful music of Bandini.

I have a farmaish for the Asha Bhonsle song from the movie
Ab Ke Baras Bhej Bhaiya Ko Babul

I think it should be rated among her best works ever, my heart breaks every time I hear it (I don’t know why) and yet it gets overshadowed by all the wonderful Lata/SD Burman numbers from the movie.

Atul, I was making tea on a gloomy, dark, rainy day and I remembered one of Mukesh’s sad, gloomy songs:

Do roz mein woh pyar ka aalam ujad gaya (Pyar ki raahen ? never heard of that one!)

and one of his happy songs

suno ji suno hamari bhi suno aji mehrban hamari bhi suno (Ek dil sau afsane)

So here are my next two farmaishes!

Thanks, Atul!

Atul–could you please review and upload SD Burman’s last album Tyaag (1977) starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna? There are some gems in there. Thanks!

One things leads to another and a post by Richard in Dances of the Footpath made me realise that Pakeezah’s music did not get a single award in 1972, which were hogged by a film called Beimaan, both in acting and music categories.

For the life of me I can’t remember this film or its music, and Wikipedia says Pran refused his supporting actor award for this film because Ghulam Mohammad was not given a posthumous award for his Pakeezah work.

I find it incredible and I have been looking at the songs list of Beimaan, and not one of them rings a bell from the lyrics. I will have to listen to them to see if any of those have lasted as well as Pakeezah’s music.

I hope you can post some and dig us up some lesser known tales (as you usually manage to do!)

Atul, a quick look at your year by year page brings us some other fine music from 1971:
Amar Prem, Mehboob Ki Mehndi, Anubhav, Caravan, Tere Mere Sapne.

I have listened to Beimaan songs…well, I await your verdict. I did not recognise a single one.

Shankar Jaikishen or the producers must have had one big “safarish” that year. And kudos to Pran for being ethical!

Beimaan was a Manoj Kumar movie. Its songs were of chaalu nature which appealed to the aam janta at that time.

Its title song was “na izzat ki chinta na fikr koi apmaan ki jai bolo beimaan ki jai bolo”. This song was 6th in Binaca geetmala finals of 1972.

If Pakeja did not get any awards, then at least those awards should have gone to “Hara Rama Hare Krishna” whose song stood number 1 in Binaca geetmala, whereas two paakeja songs were at number 2 and 3 in Binaca geetmala finals.

I agree, Beimaan getting these awards speaks poorly about the taste of the people who voted for these awards. I was just over 10 or 11 years old at that time, but even I had better taste than that. I personally did not like the songs of Beimaan.

There chalu songs that are much better than others. Time puts everything in its place.

I just realised that Pakeezah and Beimaan were competing in 1972, not 1971.

So the competition would have been Piya Ka Ghar, Parichay, Ek Nazar, Samadhi (Jab Tak rahe, Bangle ke peechhe, Jaane Jana)..are some of the ones I can recognise.

All of them had some enduring numbers but Pakeezah really should have swept away with it.

I don’t how the Binaca geet mala was worked out: I remember Pakeezah songs being played day and night on the radio, and the elders remarking on that fact (esp Inhi Logon Ne, Chalte chalte, and chalo dildar chalo….but all the others too)

Now, reading more, I realise the Jaiksihen part of Shankar- Jaikishen passed away from cirrhosis of the liver around that time, so this was maybe a “sentimental” award for some true rubbish.

Yes, Jaikishan had passed away at that time. But recognising Beimaan as a masterclass of Shankar Jaikishan is a big disservice to them since Shankar Jaikishan were the greatest and most successful music directors of all time when Jaikishan died. Shankar Jaikishan had composed hundreds of better and all time classic songs than this “Beimaan” song.

This award, filmfare award was an award based on votes by readers of the magazine. If the readers voted that way, then who are we to question their wisdom ? And in fact “Beimaan” swept the awards that year. So what ? Who remembers this movie today ?

Yes, they produced such an enormous amount of excellent songs over the years that I agree that this must have been almost an insult.

And yes, time puts everything in its place.

Madan Mohan’s son remembers this in an article

“It was not getting the Filmfare Award that really bothered my father. In the year when Mera Saaya was in the reckoning, he told us that all the issues of Filmfare had been bought. I’m not saying there was any cheating but when consumers had to fill in the coupons about their choices, it was so easy to manipulate the awards.”

I remember reading an interview by Laxmikant Pyarelal, where they said something similar about a producer, that this was the way to break into the awards for some people. Sounds like very hard (and not cheap) work to me!

I will be away for a couple of days. So there may not be new songs posted on 4 and 5 june, 2009. Hopefully, normalcy will be resumed after that. ;)

Atul, while you are away, a dustedoff post on Sujata brought up a host of posts with loris that people remembered.

So here some farmaishes:

1- Nani teri morni ko mor le gaye,
baaki jo bachaa tha kale chor le gaye” (film, prob Masoom, from 1960 or so)

2- Kabuliwallah aaya (2) kabul kubalse
Pista badaam laya (2) kabul kubalse (Kabuliwallah)

3- Chhun chhun karti aaye chidhiya
Dal ka daana laaye chidhiya (don’t know film, singer Rafi)

Thank you!

You asked about the actors for the film Badmash, I found that one of them was Jalal Agha.

That reminded of a very fine movie with him and Simi Garewal called
Do Boond Pani, which had few, but lovely songs: it was well-made movie (though I didn’t enjoy the ending).

Hope you can find some of them and post them soon.

Hi Atul, I have quoted your blog in one of my posts today here: http://musicwizard.livejournal.com/19619.html

I just thought you would like to know that. Thanks for the amazing songs you are sharing, although I have been visiting your blog only from past few months.

Atul, here is a list of songs from Do Boond Pani which I requested earlier- it may help you to find them faster

Music: Jaidev Lyrics: Kaifi Azmi, Bal Kavi Bairagi

1. Ja ja ri pawaniya piya ke des ja (Asha) ..the best-known song

2. Peetal ki mori gaagri dilli se mol mangwaayi (Parveen Sultana?)

3. Apne watan mein aaj do boond pani bhi nahin (Mukesh)

4. Baaj rahi jis samaye shehnai

5. Banni teri bindiya kim le loon re balaiyyan

Today is June 16, 2009 in Atlanta, USA. It’s the first time I have visited your blog for the song “Main Khush Naseeb Hoon”. I am impressed with the details on your blog. You are truly doing a great service for fans like me. Even after being in USA for 33 years, the only songs I listen to and sing are Indian songs. Thank you for your contribution.

Thanks for your kind words, Mr Thakkar. it is encouragement like yours that keeps this blog going.

Atul,
Could you please include the song “Panghat na jao” from
the film “Hamara Ghar”?
Roy

I was walking in my garden yesterday and … I remembered some songs about gardens and bees, and here they are:

1. Baagon mein baharon mein ithlaatha gaata aaya koi … Lata from Choti Bahen?

2. Baagh mein kali khili bhanwara … Asha in Chand aur suraj

3. Bhanwara bada naadaan haye … Asha in Sahib bibi aur ghulam

4. Gunguna rahen hain bhanware … Rafi, Asha in Aradhana

5. Bikhra ke zulfein chaman mein na jaana … Mukesh, Lata in nazrana

So here are some farmaishes from me, Atul!

This is such a nice site to come to and listen to some old songs from the past, some of which I barely remember, yet are so soothing and melodious to the ear. Thanks for a great job, Atul!

dear sir,

The video for BHARKHA rani was just just superb i enjoy it a lot i wud like to see the lata version for the same sog kindly let me know if u have in ur blog.

Having an artistic inclination V. Shantaram movies had quite a big impact on me. The music, dance and narrative style stood out from the rest. You have already posted few incredible songs from his movies. One “farmaish” that I have is for video of the song “Bindiya lagake” from Jal bin machli nritya bin bijli. I remember being spell bound by this song as a kid as it had the right quotient of story and dance that could keep any child on his seat for a while. All my attempts to search the video of that song have so far been futile. I am hopeful. Thanks!!!

I found myself humming this song today and looked it up on your site and it is not there! The song is

Yeh raaten nayi puraani … by Lata from Julie

In fact, the songs of Julie are all missing! I don’t remember all of them, but the title song, Bhool gaya sab kuch … by Kishore Kumar is a haunting melody.

So here are two more farmaishes from me. Thanks, Atul!

Hi Atul,

Many months back I invited you to my site bobbytalkscinema.com

and got a reply that you will soon mail me how you feel about it.

Still wating for your mail.

Atul–a farmaish please. SD Burman’s last release “Tyaag” which was a home production of Sharmila Tagore’s starring her, Kaka (Rajesh Khanna), Prem Chopra, Sulochana et al. It’s a forgotten gem. Would be very grateful.

I may be a bit off and on in posting songs for the next couple of weeks, as I will be travelling. So please bear with me in case I am not in a position to post as prolifically as usual during this period

I remembered a song last night and when I checked this morning, I found that you have not yet posted this one. This is
sajan sang kahe neha lagaye … by Lata from Main Nashe mein hoon.

It is an absolutely beautiful song.

Thanks for the great job you are doing, Atul.

Atul, here are a few more songs which I remembered:

1. sunoji suno hamari bhi suno … Mukesh in Ek Dil Sau Afsane
2. ek sawal main karoon ek sawal tum karo … Rafi, Lata in Sasural
3. tere pyar ka aasra chaahta hoon … Mahendra Kapoor, Lata (?) in Dhool ka phool

Thanks, Atul!

As mentioned in my earlier post above, I was away for a couple of weeks and as such I was not able to devote much time to the blog. As a result I posted songs at a lower rate and I was not able to respond to comments.

Now I am back, and hopefully normal service will be resumed from tomorrow.

Hello Atul: Did you know that in June this year Madan Mohan’s son Sanjeev Kohli released a new audio CD (Tere Bagair) of 16 Madan Mohan composed songs that were either not released or were released on a Polydor issued album that had very limited distribution? Some of the songs are true gems. I have posted 3 of them and others have posted more. Here is a link to one of them:

I just remembered another old favorite of mine and discovered that it had not made it to your blog. The song is

Sapne suhane ladakpan ke mere nainon mein dole … Lata in Bees Saal Baad

I guess I am remembering my own ladakpan these days!

Thanks, Atul!

This is great information, bemused321.

Lalitha, “Bees Saal baad” has so many great songs that it is easy to confuse among songs that have been posted and that have not been posted. Now that you have pointed it out,I will certainly post this song.

Here are two more songs about “bachpan”:

1. Bachpan ke din bhula na dena … Lata and Shamshad in Deedar

2. Bachpan ke din bhi kya din the … Asha in Sujata

I know you have probably noticed this already, but I spend a lot of time at this site daily! Thanks for the great work, Atul.

Hi, very nice blog (I was exploring it after I just commented on another post). I reached here through google search.. I wished to follow it or keep in touch in some way. No such Option here ???

In blogspot blogs, there is the option of “follow my blog.” There is no such option in wordpress.com I think.

yeah thats true indeed.. I thought there would be some other option like an email subscription or so…. [:)]

Looks like I have a lot of songs to catch up on, since I have not been able to do much surfing for some time now. However, I did remember one song today, and guess what, it still hasn’t made it to your blog. It is from the movie Mere Huzoor.

Kya kya na sahe humne sitam aapke khatir … Lata and Rafi

You are doing a great job, Atul!

Atul – Your blog makes me feel like am back in high school – college – you know, I used to know the lyrics of practically every song – however obscure. At home we are obsessed with ‘yesteryears’ songs and big fans of ‘bhoole bisre geet’. I grew up with Binaca geet mala … what can I say? Am thrilled I found your blog. Now I know where to link to when I refer to a song on my blog!

wow! truely a find for me… atul your interest in bollywood songs, singlemindedness for blogging and great comments about songs are really inspiring. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot for your encouraging words.

want to know, who has sung “chale jana jara thehro kisika dum nikalta hai”

This is a song from “Around the world”. It had two versions. Male version was sung by Mukesh. Female version was sung by Sharda.

very nice blog

i came in search of lyrics :) – thanks for doing service by providing lyrics

Thanks for your kind words.

Here’s another farmaish, Atul:

Chali re chali re gori paniya bharan ko … Lata and Kishore in Mr. X in Bombay (??)

It looks like listening to all these old beauties makes me remember more and more old songs. Thanks, Atul.

Atul, I just realized that there are no songs from the movie Saaz aur Awaaz, which had Joy Mukherji and Saira banu, and some really great songs and dances.

1. Saaz ho tum aur awaaz hoon main …
2. Paayaliya banwari …
3. Dil ki mehfil saji hai chale aayiye …
4. Tum ishq ki mehfil ho …

So here is my next list of farmaishes!

Congratulations on achieving the 2000th song! This is a fantastic site.

Here are some more songs I remembered:

Cham cham ghunghroo bole … by Asha Bhonsle in Phagun (the old one with Madhubala and Bharat Bhushan)

Gudiya hamse roothi rahogi kab tak … by Lata in Dosti

Thanks, Atul!

Another movie which hasn’t made it here:

Pooja ke phool

Songs: Meow meow meri sakhi … by Lata

Ab do dilon ki mushkil … by Rafi and Lata

Dil todna kisika yeh zindagi nahin hai … by Lata

Strange, how I seem to remember these old songs out of the blue these days!

Another old song which hasn’t been posted:

Ek dil ke tukde hazaar huye … by Rafi from Pyar ki Jeet

Actually, I remembered this song when I opened your site this morning, because the first song reminded me of this song. I am amazed by your dedication to this project, and grateful that someone is doing such a wonderful service to lovers of old-fashioned music. Thanks, Atul!

I have two more farmaishes:

Tim tim tim taron ke deep jale … Lata and Talat – Mausi

Tim tim karte taare – Lata – Chirag kahan roshni kahan

Thanks, Atul!

It looks like I am filling this section with my farmaishes! Raja, please add your farmaishes so that I can feel less guilty!

I remembered these two songs and found that they have not yet found a place here:

Din ho ya raat hum rahen tere saath … from Miss Bombay

Yeh nayi nayi preet hai … from Pocketmaar

Thanks, Atul!

Looking at your farmaishes gives me so much food for thought and so many songs that I have noyt yet posted. Keep your farmaishes coming. I keep all these farmaishes noted down , and sooner or later all of them are bound to appear in the blog. There are many great songs that have not yet been covered.

Incidentally, the song “ye nayi nayi preet hai ” is already posted.

Ye nayi nayi preet hai (Pocketmaar)

Yes, you are right, Atul! Yeh nayi nayi preet hai … has already been posted, but I found another one that hasn’t been posted:

Dil mein chhupake pyar ka toofan … by Rafi in Aan, picturized on a very young Dilip Kumar and Nadira

Thanks, Atul!

Happy Diwali, everyone! Just remembered yet another old favorite for you to add to your spreadsheet of farmaishes:

Jaane kahan mera jigar gaya ji – Rafi and Geeta Dutt from Mr. and Mrs. 55

Thanks, Atul!

Atul, I was listening to O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana and decided to listen to some happy songs instead and looked for the songs of Tere Ghar ke samne, and guess what? There was only one song from that movie there. That movie is bursting with great songs, like

Tu kahan yeh bataa … Rafi

Dekho rootha na karo … Rafi and Lata

Ek ghar banaunga … Rafi and Lata

Sun le tu dil ki sada … Rafi

Yeh tanhaai haye re haye … lata

All great songs, thanks to Burmanda, and of course, Dev Anand!

Another old favorite which came to my mind just now:

Dil ki tamanna thi masti mein … by Rafi and Asha in Gyarah Hazar ladkiyan

Thanks for bearing with me, Atul!

Since you are so patient with me, Atul, here are a few more farmaishes:

1. Tum jo huye mere humsafar … Rafi and Geeta Dutt in Twelve o’clock (never heard of that movie!)

2. Chandni aaye banke pyar o saajna … Shamshad Begum in Dulari

3. Piya tose naina laage re … Lata from Guide

Thanks, Atul!

Here are a few more farmaishes from me, since Raja doesn’t seem to be sending you any these days!

1. Qaid mein hai bulbul … by Lata in Bedard Zamana kya Jaane

2. Naina hain jadoo bhare … by Mukesh in Bedard Zamana kya Jaane

3. Mujhe mil gaya bahana teri …. Lata in Barsaat ki Raat

4. Humsafar saath apna chhod chale … Rafi (?) and Lata in Aakhri Dao

If I have already requested these songs, just blame it on my poor memory (and laziness to check!).

Thanks, Atul, for being so patient.

Indeed I have not given Atul any farmaishes for a long time !!!
Bahut na-insaafi hai :-)

Here is one farmaish, Atul.
I was listening to it only yesterday after a long time – and was amazed at how powerful the simple lyrics are. We know Rafi saab has sung some really good rona-dhona songs but listening to this yesterday made me realise what a gem this is in that category.

The song is :
Kal chaman tha aaj ek sehra hua from Khandaan

where did you listen to this rona dhona song, Raja ?

I was listening to it on my mp3 player while travelling by bus. :-)
Listened to a lot of lovely songs (mix of various singers) – thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

Btw, now that my “farmaish” mood has been ignited again (blame it on Lalitha ;-) ), here are a few more.

Just noticed that you have not posted ANY of Rafi saab’s rona-dhona songs from Do Badan. He has 3 very famous ones in this movie.

Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil
Naseen mein jiski jo likha tha
Raha gardishon mein har dam

And, staying with Rafi saab, I see that you have posted only 1 song (din dhal jaaye) from Guide. He has two other gems too.

Kya se kya ho gaya
Tere mere sapne ab ek rang hain

Of course, as usual these are only farmaishes. Totally upto you to decide if you want to post them – and when. :-)

I just noticed that you have only one song from Jab Jab Phool Khile. I know you do not like Shashi Kapoor much ;-) – and you would rather post obscure songs than better-known ones – but how about “yahan main ajnabi hoon” from this movie ? Again a Rafi saab song with strong lyrics. He seems to have sung this in a subdued style but the emotion comes through strongly. Rafi saab was in a class of his own, no doubt about that !!!

A few more farmaishes from me, Atul (definitely the last ones for today :-) ).
- Dil bekaraar sa hai (Ishaara) – there are 2 versions, male & female (both are good)
- Maine shaayad tumhen pehle bhi (Barsaat ki Raat)
- Ek musafir ko duniya mein kya chaahiye (Door Ki Awaaz)
- Ek haseen shaam ko (Dulhan Ek Raat Ki) – I think I have already sent a farmaish for this a while ago…khair no harm in sending it again. :-)

Good to see Raja back in action again! Now I don’t have to feel guilty about sending in farmaishes, I have some great company! So here is another song that I just remembered:

Yeh vaada karen jahan bhi rahen … Mukesh and Lata in Dil bhi tera hum bhi tere

Thanks, Atul, and congratulations on reaching 2100! Now we just have to keep supplying farmaishes to help you to reach 5000!

Two more farmaishes, Atul!

1. Yeh chanda roos ka na yeh japan ka … Rafi in Insaan jaag utha

2. Din ho ya raat hum rahen tere saath … Rafi and Lata in Miss Bombay

Thanks!

Great job, Atul! Now we can search by music directors also! I used it to search for a song and didn’t find it –

Udhar tum haseen ho idhar main jawan … Rafi and Geeta Dutt in Mr. and Mrs. 55

The music was so typical of O.P.Nayyar that I just looked under O.P’s name and sure enough, the movie was there with two other songs, but this one wasn’t! So here’s another farmaish from me.

Thanks, Atul!

Wow! I have no words to describe such an effort. Atul, let me start by saying that u are truly a huge fan of Hindi Bollywood Music. Let me also add that I too am one. I stumbled upon your blog while searching for some songs for my vodpod. And what I came across was a huge treasure trove of music. Your effort and patience is amazing. Hats off to you!

Thank you so much for giving music lovers like myself such an insight into old Bollywood music which is unparallelled and immortal.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, Kanan.

Listening to Subir Sen’s song today reminded me of another one of his songs:

Main rangeela pyar ka rahi … Subir Sen and Lata from Chhoti Bahen

So there’s my next farmaish!

Thanks for going thru the farmaishi list so patiently and playing them!
