Just like there are hit pairs of hero and heroine in movies, there used to be a hit pair of mother and child in 1950s. Meena Kumari would play mother of Daisy Irani in several movies.

These movies were mostly lighthearted movies and good fun. I have already posted a few nice songs picturised on them.

Here is a lovely song which I heard for the first time only yesterday. It is sung by Lata and picturised on Meena Kumari and Daisy Irani. This song in fact is a lori (lullaby) and the mother is singing this lori to make the kid to sleep.

For some freasons, this lori is not as well known as a few others which were created in the same era. But this song certainly belongs in the same class.

Raja Mehdi Ali Khan is the lyricist and Hemant Kumar composed the music. This movie is called “Bandish” (1955) and Ashok Kumar played hero in this movie.
