“Five Rifles” (1974) was a C grade movie produced by comedian I S Johar. The movie itself made little impression on the movie goers, but there were a few interesting tricks that I S Johar adopted in this movie.

I have been waxing eloquent about music director Ganesh in this blog. The more I listen to his songs, more is the sense of loss that I feel. If only he got a preporer run in Bollywood, we would have had many more great songs to savour.

There is one genre of songs in Bollywood that could be called Kishore kumar acted comedy songs. These songs, where Kishore Kumar acts as well as sings, and in addition does some great comedy as well, are worth going miles to watch.

Recently, I discovered a wonderful movie called “Tamasha” (1952). By the looks of its songs, the movie appears to be a superb comedy movie. In fact, it appears to me to be a fore runner of “Miss Mary” (1956).

If one listens to just the audio of this song, it sounds unmistakably like a song from a Shammi Kapoor movie. The song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics is by Hasrat Jaipuri, music is by Shankar Jaikishan. It all seems to add up. The song even has Rafi shouting “Hurray” (reminiscent of [...]
